Joe Hatten. tho stylish-soutlipaw of the Brooklyn Dodgers, who has
beaten Chicago six times without a setback this season, needs only
three more triumphs over the Cubs to tie the record tor most victories
over a club in one year.
The record of nine Is held by Ed Reulbach ot the 1908 Cubs whose
Victims, strangely enough, were the Dodgers.
Hatten pitched a three-hit 4-0 shutout over his "cousins" yesterday
to extend the Dodgers' winning streak to 10 straight, not counting the
protested 3-3 "victory" over the St. Louts Cardinals July 30. It Is the
longest winning streak of the season In the National league.
The win enabled the Dodgers to maintain their seven game lead
over the runner-up St. Louis Cardinals who staged one of their cus
tomary fast finishes to nip the Boston Braves 8-7. Earl Torgerson
homered for the Braves. The Braves dropped to nine games behind

According to one of our secret operatives, the slate game commission
was almost persuaded to give Oregon humeri a few extra dayi of deer
season this fall, four or five, but persons who have a firm clutch on
the collective tor of the commission put the sktdi to the Idea. So deer
season' this fall will start on Wednesday, October 1. and run through
Monday, October 20. . .
The game conihilnslou was muter considerable pressure from hunters
to extend the season a little and might have declined It open September
37, adding four more days to the front end. But a representative of the
forest service, so our Information goes, wouldn't stand Hill for that
at all.
The forests are too dry, the niituiurnt went, In September and the
forestry service wasn't going to allow any shooting before the first of
October. They'd close the woods first.
So the commission, still casting about for the right time, considered
tacking on .an extra five days at the end of the scasoit, having the
closing date come on October 25. But tho commission's chief biologist,
we're told, wouldn't stay hitched (or that. Ills argument was that the
bucks ire In rut after October 20.
Therefore, with the pressure being exerted on both ends, the com
mission declared a 30-day season and let It go at that.

Chicago Lady Keglers Slapped
, The Women's International Bowling congress is very definitely the
parent and supreme body of women bowlers In the world at least In
the opinion of a Cook county (Chicago) superior court Judge. The Jurist
cut off a group of lady keglers who were trying to muscle In on the
WIBC.
It seems that the Chicago gals had gained control of the Chicago
Women's Bowling association and were going to secede from the Inter
national, no less.
The Judge ordered the girls to dig up all the dues they had collected
that rightfully belonged to tho WIBC and turn the money over to
the court by the first of September, and that all records belonging to
either the association or the International be turned over to the court.
The decision was based on the reasoning that member organisations
of the WIBC can't pull out and set up their own organizations without
violating the WIBC charier. In other words, one leg of a centipede
can't break loose and stroll off by Itself.
