A surprise birthday dinner was
given at the Thompson home July
20 by Mrs. J. B. Thompson and Mrs.
Don Bertram tor Don Bertram. At
the dinner were Mr. and Mrs. John
Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dan
iels, Frank Thompson. Mr. and Mrs.
J B. Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Don
Bertram and son, Donnle.
Mrs. Arthur Farla was a business
visitor in Bend Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Farla sold
their place ot business In Chemult
to Mr. and Mrs. C. K. Taylor ol
Bend. R U.Oarner ot Pasadena.
Calif., hu leased the cafe. The
Farias are moving from Chemult to
Berkeley, Calif.
Mr. and Mrs. William Hash Jr.,
and family of Roseburg were visi
tors In Chemult Sunday. July JO.
They took back a load of household
goods which have been stored In
Chemult William Hash 8r, accom
panied his son here.
Camp 4 W
Visitors at the Crulkshank home
last week were Mr. and Mrs. Ed
ward Halvlrd. The Halvirds were on
their way home to Boise. Ida., after
a honeymoon trip to Reno. Lake
Tahoe, San Francisco, Keddie and
Portola. Mrs. Halvlrd Is a sister of
Crulkshank.
A motion picture show will be
given Friday, July A at the Com
munity hall by Gus Anderson of
Klamath Falls. This Is the only en
tertainment for the children's club
and the adults of the community.
There will be no charge and every
one Is urged to attend.
The Traveling Card club met
Thursday at 1 p. m. at Muslemaq
with Mrs. Ted Lund, hostess.
Three members of the local soft
ball team played with the all-stars
In the ball game In Ashland Wed
nesday. They were Wally Ward.
Bud Mussleman, and Ed Smith.
The July meeting of the Regular
Card club was held at the home of
Mrs. Carl Arants on Thursday, July
17, at 1 p. m. Winners were Mrs.
Lee Prescott Mrs. Allen Howard and
Mrs. Loren Close. Next hostess will
be Mrs. Earl Crulkshank.
The camp houses are all full or
promised for the first time In a long
while.
Mrs. George Belknap has Just re
turned from a visit in Vancouver.

Proposal Revised

tection, were announced In a white
paper published today. j
A new order In council, replacing
the Malayan Union order In council
oj 1948, provides for the govern- ,
ment of the British settlements of j
Penang and Malacca and give force
to an agreement to be made with
the rulers of Perak, Selangor. Negri
Sembilan. Pahang. J chore, Kedah, i
Kelantan. Trengganu and Perils.

Weather Outlook
Partly cloudy weather Is expected
to pass tonight with blue skies and
sunshine reigning over the Klamath
country Saturday, according to
state weather bureau reports. The
bureau expects afternoon temper
atures to climb into the 80's Sat
urday. Cooler nights this week have
found fires In many a home furnace
in Klamath Falls, with the temper
ature at 47, low for Thursday night
Maximum Thursday was 71.
In peacetime the navy Is a great
life. The sea duty yon do then as
part of our new and enlarged navy
will be very different from the sea
duty you knew under war conditions.

Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Anderson
brought out their new car Monday.
Utile Diana O'Reilly, who has
been having quite a cough. Is do
ing quite well now and Is nearly
over It
It Is reported that George Elliott
of Merrill will succeed Carroll
Howe as principal of Henley high
school when school starts this fall
Howe Is going to Salem to a posi
tion there. He has been an ex
cellent teacher and leader In the
school room as well as In athletics.
Mr. and Mrs. Howe and son,
George, will be missed in the social
life of the community, but they
are wished the best ot luck In their
new location.
Mrs. Thlrsa DeCew has been
quite 111 with a very bad cough.
Mr. and Mrs. George Kohler of
Spring lake district were business
visitors in this community Sunday,
H. R. Anderson and Martin Sny
der were working In Merrill Tues
day doing, some repairing there.
The Hess brothers, Fred and
Tom. are very busy these days
hauling baled hay.
Pavement Repair
Jobs Under Way
.. Chunks ot pavement were being
removed Wednesday from Klamath
and Main streets by the Warren
Construction company. Workers
for the company are replacing
broken and cracked paving on
various Klamath Falls streets as
part of the summer repair pro
ject.
Other work now in progress is
the paving of 7th beyond the post
office and the resurfacing of one
block on Plum.

Northern California mining men
awaited Willi Interest today mill
tests on gold ore discovered re
cently on George Noonan'a prop
erty, v.'hlch the Siskiyou Dally
News said is believed to be of ex
ceptionally high grade.
The property Is under let so to
Harry Thompson, San Francisco
mining own and associates.
Thompson said the ore would be
tested soon with a 10-ton pilot mill.
He added that he did not want to
make any estimate as to how much
gold the ore would run to the ton.
The newspaper said, however,
that Thompsons announcement of
testing operations' confirmed ru
mors of a discovery which had
been circulating in Siskiyou county
tor the past several days. The
paper said county mining men
were predicting the ore would run
"In the hundreds of dollars" a
ton and "may prove to be the
richest in the county's nearly 100-year-old
mining history."
