ride aet for July 26-37.
The purpoae of the ride waa to
determine hazard which might be
removed by the U. S. forest aervlce
in cooperation wl'h recreational
groupa.
Barglnaon rode from the north
end of Lake o' the Woods where the
posae ride will start Saturday, on
up paal several of the beautiful
wooded Sky lakes on to Inland lake.
He' advised against a part of the
cross-country Included In the orig
inal plans for the two-day trip, as
being too rough, and delegated a
crew which started work Monday re
moving fallen logs and brush from
the trail.
Interest Is Increasing rapidly In
the ride, with 71 registered to date.
Each member of the pos&e may take
one guest and many old members
who have not ridden with the group
for some time are planning on tak
ing the trip.
Horses and duffel will be shipped
from here to the lake and those not
having their own may rent trail
horses at Lake o' the Woods but
should notKy Keith Moon, commit
tee chairman, at once so there U1
be sufficient horses for everyone.
The Rogue River troopers will
Join the group at the lake and make
the ride to camp, to participate in
the grand time planned by the committee.

NEW YORK, July 23 Of Most of
the time I am awake I live In my
private dream world.
I don t know what your dream
world Is like, but mine is one place
where no tenderfoot is welcome.
It is really a tough Joint, where
nobody drinks sarsaparllla and no
holds are barred. You or nobody
else could gel In there with an
ordinary police pass.
My dream world is strictly irom
muscles. Everybody who lives In It
has robbed birds' nests or shed blood
all over the tomato patch but me.
I am always about to but some
thing always Intervenes.
In my private dream world I am
alwayff the about-to-be-a-crlmlnal-
iio-never-becomes-one. It Is a
desperate sphere into which I would
never dare invite my friends. They
are too pusillanimous for the hor
rible projects I keep hatching there.
I began escaping Into my dream
world when I first learned that
kindergarten was a fraud: At that
period In American education they
used to keep children from mutual
meyhem by having us gallop around
the room in tune to the piano. Just
as I felt convinced the teacher re
garded me as the best pacer and
prancer of Uie class. I overheard her
tell a visiting instructor from the
first grade:
"I can stand everything about
this galloping business except that
Boyle boy's knees knocking together
on the turns. That upsets me."
Immediately I set about dream
ing how I could hang that kindly
old lady by the neck without being
caught. I never got around to doing

it. but that incident sent me off Into
a dream world in which my enemies
ever since have suffered terrible
phantom drubbings.
I wouldn't want to give the idea
that my dream world is Just an
arena of revenge. . It Is much more
than that. It is the place where I
turn stupendous million-dollar busi
ness deals, toss thousands away to
charity, and am a modern Robin
Hood of Wall Street with a mldas
touch.
But the main things Is that in my
dream world I, am a really tough
cookie. Anybody who -pushes me
around disappears In a geyser of
surprised gore. The only trouble is
they don't realize It.
After some five years of married
life my good wife. Frances began to
worry about the way I kept skipping
off Into my dream world whenever
the world about me bored me. She
said I should see a psychiatrist
or at least go to a Turkish bath.
"I would rather admit a duck
billed platypus to my dream world
than a psychiatrist," I said.
But once at a cocktail party I
edged up to a psychiatrist and asked:
"Have you ever considered rob
bing the Queen Elizabeth in mid
ocean, sinking it with all Us pas
sengers and escaping on a speed
boat?" He measured me carefully with
his eye, then whispered:
The first thing-Is to knock out
the radio so she can't give an
alarm."
Now after 10 years Frances doesn't
mind so much when I retreat into
my dream world'. Her tolerance be
gan after she asked me curiously:
"Are there any girls in your dream
world?" ,
"No." I told her, "it's no place for
women."
"Well, you poor thing, go ahead
and enjoy lw"
So that's where I live mostly.
Right now I'm figuring on how to
crack the Bank of England without
leaving fingerprints. Any ldeas?

Building Plan
SALEM. July 23 IPi Construc
tion plans for three buildings at
the Falrview home for the feeble
minded were stalled today after a
tie vote by the state emergency
board and the state board of con
trol. Board members late yesterday
voted 4 to 4 after arguing need of
the building and present high con
struction costs and then set an
other meeting for Aug. 7 to review
the Issue.
The buildings involved are an
employes' cottage, a patients' cot
tage and a laundry. A low bid of
X742.740 has been submitted by W.
C Smith and Co.. Portland.
The group of board members fa
voring Immediate construction
warned costs might go higher and
the need for additional room at
the Institution was so urgent work
should start at once.
Favoring the plan were Secretary
of State Robert S. Farrell Jr., State
Treasurer Leslie M. Scott, Speaker
of the House John Hall and Rep.
Jack Greenwood. Wemme. Voting
against were acting Governor Mar
shall E. Cornett. Klamath Falls.
Sen. D. H. Walker. Independence.
Rep. F. H. Damasch. Portland, and
Rep. Robert C. Glle. Roseburg.

Camp White
Petitions In
Circulation
An Initiative petition calling far
state acquisition of the Camp
White hospital, Medford, for po
sible uses as a mental hospital. Is
now being circulated over the state
by the League of Women Voters.
The petition, if enough signatures
are obtained, would force a vote on
a proposed law entitled "Bill tor
State Acquisition of Camp Whit
Hospital Site and for an appropria
tion of (5000 to defray preliminary
expenses incurred in carrying out
the act.
The federal government has title
to Camp White, but the state could
acquire the surplus Installation .
through the war assets administra
tion. Petitions here will be placed at
the county courthouse and chamber
of commerce building, from 10 a. m.
until 4 p. m. Wednesday and Thurs
day of this week, and a local mem
ber of the league will handle the
papers In each place. The petition
must be turned over to the county
clerk for certification of the signers
as voters this week-end.
Mass Rites Held
For Crash Victims
MYRTLE POINT. July 23 W
Mass graveside rites were held to
day for the five victims of an auto
mobile' accident Sunday In which
four members of a family were
killed outright.
Victor John Fry. 19, the fifth vic
tim, died yesterday. His wife and
year-old daughter also were seri
ously Injured.
Burial was in Oak Flats cemetery
on the Illinois river.
