James Cant was admitted to
Klamath Valley hospital about 10:30
this morning for treatment of se
vere cuts on the left hand and
forearm. Oant, an employe of Sess
ler brothers plant at 834 Market,
was Injured when he caught his
hand In a scrap shear, which cuts
steel.
He was brought to the hospital
by fellow workmen and emergency
surgery was performed Immediate

Mayor Gets
Rate Answer
A reply to the city council's pro
test concerning the proposed In
crease In telephone rates has been
received by Mayor Xd Ostendorf
from the public, utilities commis
sioner In Salem, The letter states
that the hearing for the request
has been set for July 7 In Salem and
thtt the first two days will be spent
In reviewing the Pacific Telephone
and Telegraph company's plea for
Increased rates. After this, the pro
tests from the various Oregon cities
will go before the commissioner be
fore a final decision Is made.
The city council voted June Id
to oppose the Increase In telephone
rates which has been asked by the
company. The Increase would
amount to t3.24g.000. Not all tele
phone coats would be revised as
long distance calls over 176 miles
would probably be reduced from 5
to 45 cents. Charges on cslis under
133 miles would be upped. Service
charges would also be Increased.
Day rates would decrease while
night rates would be higher.
If the proposed Increase Is grant
ed the Individual flat rate In Klam
ath county would Jump from 1325
to t-1.76. The two-party rate would
climb from 62.75 to 63 but there
would be no Increase In the cost of
four-rmrty lines. The business rate
would also rise with the Individual
business flat rate advancing from
$4.75 to 66.60.
TOUTH ESCAPE
Two lads, aged 13 and 11 years,
made an escape from the county
luvenlle detention cottage home
late yesterday afternoon and are
sought bv police today. Both were
being held for burglaries.
The boys were out berry picking
and slipped off from tho rest of
