Mrs. Elwell has Just completed a
term of three years as second reader
In the mother church. She first
became Interested In Christian Sci
ence In the Philippine Islands while
her father, Lt. Gov. Adna R. Chaffee
was military governor, Mrs. Elwell
received her education In New York
and In Washington, D. C.
Cordon V. Comer, cleric of the
mother church, announced a sub
stantial Increase In membership
since 1946. He also reported that
300.000 food parcels were sent to 25
war-torn countries during 1846. The
Klamath Falls church Is taking an
active part In assembling and ship
ping the parcels.
Adams To Head
Bible School
The First Baptist church, North
8th and Washington, plans for a
large enrollment in the vacation
Bible school which begins Monday,
June 16, at COO a. m.
Rev. L. R. Adams will supervise
the Bible school, and a corps of
trained workers has been prepared
for the work. Preparation day has
been set for Friday morning at
9:30 a. m. and both pupils and
workers are urged to be present to
complete Initial arrangements.
In addition to commencement, a
school-wide picnic has been planned
by the faculty.

free of charge to ail sections of the

Bible School
The daily vacation Bible school
conducted by the Salvation Army
lor the past week will close officially
on Sunday. June 15. with an all-day
picnic at Moore park.
Children needing transportation to
the park will be picked up by car
alone the usual route. Those living
near to the Salvation Army hall at
4th and Klamath are to meet there
at 9:45 a. m. and will be transported
to the park from this point
Each person Is to bring his own
lunch, silverware and sugar. Paper
plates, cups. pop. ice cream and cof
fee will be provided.
In the event of rain on Sunday
morning, the picnic will be post
poned and Sunday school held as
usual. Anyone wishing further in
formation may call Major W. Ros-
wau at owu. '
The Bible school has been a sue-"
cess with a good registration and I
attendance. Young people nave
studied Bible, made many articles of
handcraft and enjoyed themselves
singing and playing together. Certi
ficates for attendance will be pre
sented Saturday morning.
There will be no services held at
the Salvation Army on Sunday. June

Speaker Slated

Nasarene. Martin and Garden. A
marine for seven years. Staff saw ex
tensive overseas service, finally being
stationed after his return at the
Marine Barracks.
He Is a student at Howard Paine
college, Brownwood. Tex. He Is com
pleting his theological training and
hopes to return to the Northwest to
enter the ministry.
STRAWBERRY CROP 81'FFERS
GRANTS PASS. June 13 (i The
strawberry crop suffered 30 per cent
damage and cherry orchards and
cut hay In this area were left nearly
a total loss from heavy rains this
month. County Agent Jens F. Svinth
said yesterday.

Enrolls 87
The vacation church school at the
First Presbyterian church. 8th and
Pine, had an enrollment of 87 with
an a cruse attendance of 80 this
pert week. The guest speakers dur
ing the worship services were Cecil
Kallenborn, Mrs. Beardsley, and
Sam Smith.
Next week the slides on the
"Journey of Paul" will be shown.
Commencement exercises for the
school will be held at 7:30 p. m. Fri
day. June 20. All parents and friends
are invtted to this program In which
certificates and honor awards will
be made to the students. On Sat
urday, June 31. from 10 a. m. to
1 p. m. a picnic will be held at
Moore park for the members of the
vacation church.

James Aiken Smith, D. D.. who
Is the assistant pastor of West
minster PresbyUrian church, Port
land, will speak at the First Presby
terian church, 0th and Pine, this
Sunday In the absence of Rev. David
Barnett. Rev. Smith has filled the
pulpit here several times in the
past. He has recently , celebrated
the 60th anniversary of his ordina
tion in the ministry. An honorary
doctor of divinity degree was pre
sented to Rev. Smith by the Lewis
and Clark college, Portland, at its
recent commencement exercises.
Smith is the father of Mrs. Earl
Reynolds of this city.
