The grunge went on record as con
tinuing 1U opposition to the tax
at a convention In Bend last week,
while the APL took a unaiUmous
utand against the tax In lta state
meeting at Bend yesterday. .
Vote of the grange was not unani
mous, but a local grange member
who was at the Bend meeting said
that the vote was heavy against the
tax and that there was surprisingly
little argument on the floor when
the anti-sales tax resolution came
up.
The Pomona of Klamath county
has favored the tax all along, but
some subordinate granges in the
county are against It, so the Klam
ath delegation to Bend was split
Some other Pomonas favor the sales
tax, but the state grange as a whole
takes the opposite view.
That stand Is a traditional one
for both the grange In Oregon and
for organised labor, both taking the
position that a sales tax hits the
small Income customer as well as
the man with the large Income and
therefore is discriminatory toward
small Income bra seta.
Both the APL and grange are ex
pected to become Increasingly active
in the fight against the proposed
sales tax this summer and early
fall before the October 7 election.
The tax was passed by the legis
lature this spring and referred to
the people. . .

"It's the Water"
The first Olympia Beer, marketed 51 years ago in 1896.
met with instant favor and sales grew to large proportions. '
It became so popular that we established three other '
breweries in three other cities, installing the same equipment,
using the same methods of brewing, identically the same
mgredieiits and ths best vater supply available la each dty
To our great disappointment we were forced to recognize
that without this one essential water from our famous
. subterranean wells we could not duplicate in these
other breweries the constant purity of taste the delicate
flavor and aroma of Olympia Beer brewed at Olympia.
It is a fact that some of the best drinking waters are never
quite satisfactory for brewing because of chlorination,
seasonal variation in "hardness" and "softness," and the presence
of undesirable minerals and vegetation which affect taste.
Therefore, in 1933, when we resumed the brewing of
Olympia Beer, we decided to confine our operations to the
one plant at Olympia, with the knowledge that "It's the Water"
that makes Olympia Beer so good,
