Wednesday evening. Harry Beck was
elected president of the group for
the coming year. He succeeds Rich
ard Fenwick.

vice president, and Archie Milligan

retary. Other officers elected were John

with army men who came in regard
to a report on a navy plane clash
near Clear lake reservoir. Investiga
tion brought out that the crash was
an old one and the army men drove
out In a Jeep In the afternoon to
paint a large yellow cross on the
wreckage to show that It has been
investigated before.
An L-6 flew down from McChord
field, also, with other army person
nel on the same detail. This old
crash has been it ported on several
occasions, by pilots flying over the
territory for the first time.

Balloons
The air is full of balloons lately
and airplanes are cnasing them.
Matt Finmgan let loose 12 large
three-foot balloons this week adver
tising his sporting goods store. One
of them was reported in Idaho
and one was sighted by a pilot from
the local airbase who chased it for
several miles before he could deter
mine what it was.
Finmgan has been selling smaller
balloons at his store, filling them
with helium gas as they are sold.
Several of them got away and got
caught up on the overhead wires
across Mam street, giving It a carni
val air.

Crashes
Two light planes were reported by
Associated Press to nave crasnea
this week in various parts of the
country. One. owned by Central Air
craft corporation. Yakima. Wash.,
crashed in a field, killing the pilot
His name was not given. The plane
was heavily damaged.
The other crash was a small sea
plane which struck In a thickly
populated section of Pittsburgh, set
ting four houses afire and killing
three persons.

Supreme Court
To Hear Case
SALEM. June 6 ifl - The state
supreme court announced today It
would hear arguments June 17 In
the suit challenging the right of
State Representative Earl Hill,
Cushman. Lane county, to sen's on
the state fish commission.
The complaint, filed by Sheldon
P. Sackett Coos Bay newspaper pub
lisher, charges that it is unconstitu
tional for any man to serve both In
the legislative and executive
branches of the stale government.
The Marlon county circuit court
upheld Sackett holding Hill could
not have both jobs.
Similar suits were filed against
State Senator Merle R. Chessman,
Astoria, w ho was serving as a mem
ber of the highway commission, and
State Senator W. H. Strayer. Baker,
who was a member of the state
board of geology and mineral lndus-
tries. Chessman later resigned from
the highway commission, and Stray
er died.
The suits against Chessman and
Strayer still are of record In the
supreme court pending disposition ot
the suit against Hill.
