Mrs. Olcna Briscoe's flock of Hamp
shire chit' ens when she left Fort
Klamath for Klamath Falls to make
her home.
Some of the hens laid eggs dally
and one day Clark took one of the
eggs and put It under his bantam
hen, which had been setting on her
nest for some time. The little hen
continued to sit faithfully on the
one egg for three weeks, a time of
anxious watching and waiting for
Clark, and at the end of the 31 days,
wonder of wonders for the little
boy, the egg hatched out a fluffy
Utile yellow chicken, and now Clark
Is the proud owner of a little black
bantam and one yellow chick. They
are his only pets, with the excep
tion of two saddle horses which are
shared by his father, older brother
Donald and himself.
Clark Is very fond of any kind
of animal or bird, and It Is a mat'er
of doubt which one Is the more con
cerned about the welfare of the
little baby chick, the mother hen or
the owner of the two. In any event,
hatching of a chick from a lone egg
under such circumstances Is a very
unusual happening, and something
that would probably never occur
again. It belongs in the category of
Rinley's "Believe it or Not" chron
icling of freak events.

Government' Buying
In Prisons Out
WASHINGTON, June 2 iP
President fruman today wiped off
the books a wartime order which
permitted the government to buy
goods produced in prisons.
The law banning the use of con
vict labor on government contracts
was suspended July 9, 1942, to give
federal agencies the benefit "of ex
isting productive facilities."
Under the supervision of the
Smaller War Plants corporation,
prisons made a sizable contribution
to the war production effort.
