Marvin Berge. union agent, said
the 1S5 loggers walked off the Job
Monday at the Irwin and Lyons
camps over the delay In settlement
of five grievances Die union charges
are violations of the contract.
Berge said the loggers would re
main Idle until Uie Issues were
settled.

weather this year leaves one of its
worst scars in lus-tory.
In one tragic night, April 9. one
of the mast devastating tornadoes of
record struck Woodward. Okla.. and
Htggtns and Glazier. Tex., killing
more than 130 persons. Injuring
hundreds of others and causing
property damage counted in mil
lions of dollars.
And as the month ended, two Ar
kansas communities, and the small

SALEM. May 1 ( The ban
on smoking on buses operating In
Oregon will remain In effect as a
immanent measure, A. F. Harvey,
head of the motor (ransimi'tatlnu
division of the public utilities com
missioner's office, said Wednesday.
The "No Smoking" rule was
adopted during tho war when buses
were crowded.
"We're going (o keep It In effect,"
Harvey said.
"We've had lots of commendation
about It. Many people object to
smoking and It makes them get
sick. Every bus Is required to make
a rest stop at least every two
hours, and that's often enough tor
anyone to smoke."
Smoking Is permitted on buses
operating In Washington and California.
