lerlnla In their construction work, and that no repairs had been made
to the existing facilities at the park except to re-roof the grandstand.

The agreement between the Sons
and the city covers these points:
The Sons agree to build two
new grandstands, along first and
third base lines, and cover all tbe
grandstands; pat the fence around
the park in good shape; build two
dugouts; set up two ticket booths;
if lime permits, seed the entire
outfield, and maintain the field
and grandstand throughout base
ball season.
This work was estimated to cost
at least J 1400, and in return the
Sons are to have use ol the park,
rent free, on Tuesday, Thursday
and Sunday afternoons.
Carninl said today that this work
would be done by the Sons. Sals
bery s complaint to Uie city council
has been referred to the recreation
committee. ,

The second leg of Uie 54 and J7

women of Reames Golf and Country
club Friday, starting at 9 a.m. Pair
ings have been made from members

three-week tournament.

Halibut Fleet
Awaits Season
ASTORIA, Ore.. April 30 IIP
Oregon's halibut fleet was in off
shore fishing waters today for the
opening of the international halibut
season Thursday.
Packers here reported there was
a possibility that boata from Uie
Western Aleutians might unload
here instead of SeatUe as in past
seasons.
Halibut landings here have aver
aged 400,000 pounds In past years.
Meanwhile, salmon fishermen
were anchored in the Columbia
river for opening of Uie commercial
season at noon today, strung from
Celllo Falls to the lower waters of
the river.

an overwhelming 13-0 yesterday
afternoon, the Klamath Union high
school Pelicans made a clean sweep
of the Southern Oregon conference
baseball schedule and are well on
the way to the state diamond play
offs in Portland.
Pat Williams pitched for the
Pels, earning his third win of the
season. The hitting was taken care
of by Irvln Whitt, two homers, and
Ed Whitney, one round-tripper.
The game was limited to six in
nings, played on Modoc field.
Snapp Opponent
Still Unfound
No opponent has been lined up
to meet Ursal "Ginger" Snapp in
the local ring next Tuesday night,
and according to Promoter Mack
Llllard the Merrill middleweight is
getting harder to match all the
time.
A good many of the boys in that
weight class in Oregon and Cali
fornia don't want any part of Snapp
in the prize ring, particularly since
Ursal maimed Wayne Parker in
Portland last Friday night.
However, Snapp Is signed to head
line the next card here, and will do
so even It the card has to be post
poned for a week, Llllard said.

The U. S. fish and wildlife service
estimated today It will have to
close eight Instead of 18 fish hatch
eries under house-proposed appro
priations for 1M8. '
Albert M. Day. director of the
service, told a reporter the hatch
eries to be closed will not be de
termined until after senate action
upon Uie house appropriations bill.
The alternative to closing some
hatcheries. Day said, would be to
operate all of them on a custodial or
token basis "a wasteful and In
efficient acUon we do not propose
to take."

will have to close two mobile trailer
laboratories based at Seattle, and
that Uie laboratories at SeatUe and
Ketchikan. Alaska, announced last
week as facing closure, probably

sonnel In wildlife management and
research, and will have to discharge
34 employes in the field of wildlife
management, including 28 trained
technicians.
Because the appropriation for
Alaska fur seal migratory studies

pleted within a year, that project
will have to be disconUnued alto
gether. Uie director added. The
study area involved is so great that
nothing conclusive could be ac

third head football coach in two
years today with the appointment
of L. E. Reynolds, Missoula, Mont.,
high school mentor.
The new mentor assumes both
football and track coaching duties.
He succeeds John Londahl who re
signed last month to accept an army
commission.
Reynolds previously coached for
five years at Prosser high school,
saw service In Uie navy during the
war and went to Missoula after
securing a master's degree in phys
ical education at Stanford.
Ski Club Meets
A meeting of the Crater Lake ski
club will be held tonight at 8 o'clock,
in room 215. Klamath Union high
school building. This meeting will
cover committee reports and plans
