Crowd Attends
Scout Rally
Four hundred people, includ
ing 200 Scouts, witnessed the
Klamath Basin District Boy
Scout rally and court of honor
Tuesday night in the Merrill
high school - gymnasium. The
court of honor, held at the con
clusion of the rally activities was
conducted by Dr. Richard Cur
rin, advancement chairman. Dr.
F. Cecil Adams presented the
highest award of the evening to
Carl Rainus of Malin. Carl re
ceived the coveted Eagle Scout
rank, his mother pinning the
badge on his uniform with Lad
die Rajnus, his father and a vet
eran Scouler, witnessing the pre
sentation. Dr. Adams challenged
young Rajnus with - the state
ment that the award of this high
rank was a call to further serv-
' ice in the Scout movement. Life
ranks were , presented to two
young men, James Welch of
Trann IK anil RtnnW MeClel-
lan of Troop 8. The Life rank
is the next step below the cov
eted Eagle.
Tror 16, sponsored by the
Sacred Heart Catholic church,
won the final leg on the court
of honor attendance trophy and
will keep the award permanent
ly. This announcement was
made by District Commissioner
Heber Radcliffe after a Troop
roll call. Troop 16 had an at
tendance of 487 per cent of its
Scout membership with 75 par
ents and friends being present
on behalf of the troop.
Patrols winning the most
points in the rally events were:
Flying Eagle patrol of Troop 8,
first with 11 points Modoc pa
trol of Troop 33, Malin, second
with 9 points; tying with the
Apache patrol of Troop 16 for
this place; the Flying Eagle pa
trol of Troop 50, third place
with 5 points, and the Eagle pa
trol, of Troop 2 placed fourth.
Many patrols had one or more
places in the events so no high
scores were accumulated even
by the winners.
Rally events were managed
by Neighborhood Commissioners
Paul Tanner. Clifford Macy,
Harvey woodara and uomer
Jones working under the direc
tion of Heber Radcliffe. Bob
Simmonds of Troop 2 was scorer
with various Scouters acting as
judges. Court of honor awards
were also made by the neighbor
hood commissioner staff.
, The next district event will
be a camporee on April 26,
probably in Moore park. - ,

arms for two months and is already capable of helping her
mother around the kitchen in their Grand Rapids, Mich- home.
Charlene lost both arms last summer when she toppled from a
work horse into the path of a mowing machine while her father
watched in horror. Holding her attention here is a tor bank
containing a $100 contribution from patrons of a Grand Rapids

suffered the loss of portions of
three fingers on the right hand
at 9:30 a. m. today at the Ken
yon plant. Currin was moved to
Klamath Valley hospital where
surgery was performed late this
morning.

ing Wednesday of grange agri
cultural, masters and commit
teemen, held in the county
agent's office.-
The Klamath Potato Grow
ers association has applied for
100 of trie buildings ror April
1. These are the 20 by 100-foot-
barracks. This is the third order
for buildings from the camp, al
ready 100 havimi been allocated
to qualified basin farmers for
labor housing.
Another subject discussed was
the Klamath county acreage al
lotments which have been set
by 'the county committee and
submitted to the state produc
tion marketing association for
approval. Growers will be noti
fied as soon as approval nas
been obtained. ' ,

Home On Vacation
College students were enjoy
ing their annual spring holiday
this week visiting with their
families before returning this
week-end to the various institu
tions of higher education.
High school and grade school
younxstors are anticipating their
holiday which starts Friday in
both the city and county sys
tems at the close of classes on
that day. Students will trek back
to their buildings Monday morn
ing, April 7, the day following
Easter Sunday.

Conclave Site

29. This will be the first time
the conference has been held

the Fraternal Order of Eagles,
district No. 6, with the local
aerie, No. 2090, as host group.
The program will open Satur
day afternoon with open house
for members and visitors at the
FOE hall followed by a dance

of the lodge building. Sunday
morning at 10 o clock the auxil
iary will have a meeting and
ritualistic competition In the KC
hall. At 1 d. m. the convention
members will parade along Muln
street to the lodge hall where
the district meeting will get un
der way at 2 p. m. There will
be Initiation of a large class of
candidates. A banquet is slated
for 6 p. m. Sunday at which
time Roy Jewell of Tho Dalles,
