    Travel Boom
Looked For
This Spring
Anticipating a summer boom
In tourist travel, the Klamath
County chamber of commerce
ia deep In plans for the forth
coming travel season. This sum
mer may see the largest num
ber of tourists in the county
since prewar years if present
conditions continue.
A new travel folder is ex
pected to be ready in about two
weeks and available at the
chamber of commerce, which
has had requests for substantial
numbers of the pamphlets from
three large eastern travel shows
1 and other tourist bureaus, Man-a
ager Charles Stark said today."
Some 15 or 20 Inquiries regard
ing travel, recreatiqnal facilities
and accommodations in this
area are answered daily at the
chamber office.
A project being considered
is a tourist host school to assist j
people who deal with tourist i
trade. The chamber hopes to 1
have It under way in late April
or early May. i
The outlook for tourist ac-I
commodations is quite good.
Stark said, if the number of
visitors is distributed through
out the season, and not in a
great influx at one time. In re
cent months building restric
tions have been partially lifted
and materials become available,
which will undoubtedly have
an effect on present accommo
dations and the opening of new
quarters. Stark advised.

Solves Education
PORTLAND, March 21 ()
The problem of equal educa
tional opportunity in city and
cojntry has been solved by New
Zealand, Dr. C. K. Beeby, New
Zealand director of education,
said here.
Beeby, here on tour, reported
that in his country teachers' sal
aries average higher in rural
districts than In cities. There
are no local school tuxes, he said,
and no teacher can be paid the
maximum salary until he has
served three years in a country
school.
"We lose something of local
control and interest that the
American system of autonomy
retains,' Beeby added.
through Klamath Falls has been
erected at the Goshen junction,
and a similar one will soon be
put up at weed.

Goes On Sale
SAN FRANCISCO, March 21
If you've got the trackage and
roadbed, you can probably start
your own railroad for the re
gional war assets administration
office has now issued a catalog
offering locomotives, locomotive
cranes, railroad hospital curs
and other rail cars for sale. The
equipment is mainly suitable,
however, for industrial switch
ing. The equipment originally cost
the government $289,000. It is
now being offered to the highest
bidders without regard to prior
ity. The sale will close at 4 p. m.,
April 18. All equipment is stan
dard gauge except four indus
trial cars. All are located In
northern California.

Oregon Firm Seeks
Refined Clay
TROY, Idaho. March 21
Three hundred acres of clay
land near Troy have been leased
by an Oregon firm which Is run
ning tests in search of refined
clay fur the manufacture of
glazed paper. Earl Peterson of
Portland, Ore., told a chamber
of commerce meeting here yes
terday. The finer, clay deposits
are believed to lie under layers
of lower grade clav which would
be used in making brick and
tile. Peterson said the clay will
be shipped to Portland or Kla
math Falls, Ore., for refining.
