During a recent league meet
ing at Mt. Shasta when the Red
ding question came up it resulted
in a tie vote, and the Redding
representative, seeing how the
wind was blowing, promised
either to see that the Cubs had
a better team on the field this
summer or withdraw from the
league.
If a withdrawal is decided
upon, President Gaipari U to
be notifitd early this week. In
that event tho application of
Ashland will bt accepted to
maka the eighth turn,
The league has also received
requests for entry from Hilt and
Summit City, but has tentatively
turned them down.
Last summer the Medford Cra
ters fielded a good team in the
southern Oregon conference and
defeated the Klamath Sons twice
in non-conference games. Med
ford has a lighted field, and will
probably be allowed to play
night games in the northern call'
fornia league.
Yreka played independent ball
last summer and has a recently
refurbished field.
On the local scene the offer of
the Klamath Sons to revamp
Recreation field is still before the
city's official family, but has not
been acted upon. The Sons would
install lights for night baseball
and reconstruct the stands and
grounds in return for a priority
on use oi the city-owned diamond.

Recently Maxie turned up as a graduate of a denazification

Louis again. .

sity of Michigan, was on his way
to California today to confer
with University of California of
ficials regarding the coaching
job there.
Crisler, who said "I have the
best job in the world at Michi
gan," expressed interest in the
California position. He said he
had been given to understand
that a change had been made in
the set-up there.
"The athletic set-up has been
taken out of the hands of the
students, according to my under
standing," Crisler declared.

game here Saturday night raised
$85.91 for the infantile paralysis
fund, and the Merrill Huskies
topped the Gilchrist Grizzlies 26
to 24 in a non-league game.
Ail proceeds from the game
went to the March of Dimes, and
the officials. Ernie Bishop and
Harold Douglas of Klamath Falls,
donated their time.
Gilchrist won the B string
game,' 29 to 16.

Pels Trounce Tornado
For Split In Series
MEDFORD, Feb. 3 The struggle for the basketball lender
ship in District 4 (Simthern Oregon) is now right buck where
it lias beeit'ull season, a. deadlock between the Klamath Fulls
Pelicans and Medford Black Tornado, each with seven wins and
one loss.
Saturday night the Pelicans completely reversed a previous
decision taken bv the Tornado, winning 48 to 37 after having
lost 4(1 to 38 Friday night.
After about two minutes of play Saturday (lie flred-up
Klamath hoopsters. paced . by Capt. LeRoy Coleman's deadly
accurate shooting and speed, took a lead over the Tornado that

points.

Chez and Tom Motlern scored
buckets for the Tornado to take
a 4-0 bulge. Clarence Bummum

Medford called time to cool off

the half Pelicans 24, Tornado

The third quarter was a virtual
duplication of the second. Each
quintet hung up 12 points and
tho Pelicans still looKen upon a
lead of nine points. Leltoy Cole
man was particularly effective in
that stanza, hitting three buckets
and a free throw to mark seven.

Pelicans had assumed their larg
est lead of the game, 16 points
with the score at 40-30. Medford
managed to wangle three bas
kets and a foul shot completion

field goal. Gene Hover fouled

Following Coleman's 19 points,

UP) Three participants in Van
couver's current boxing investi
gation reported to police over
the week-end that they received
telephone threats.
Alderman Jack Price, who
nominated the five men elected
to the athletic commission, said
his warning said "it's going to
be too bad for some people."
Tommy Cruise, ring announcer,
said his unknown caller advised
him he "talked too much," while
boxing manager Joe Martin
said calls received by himself
and his wife were very vague
but "ominous."
The investigation followed re
cent, disclosures 'of gambling
activity at ringside and the sub
stitution of scheduled fighters

Larch mountain area in two
days.

Devlin, whose Injury may
keep him out of competition for
six months, soared on a 280-foot
leap whkh took him beyond the
landing slope.
The leap was 13 feet farther
than the Leavenworth record
set in 1941 by the late Torger
Tokle, and would have come
within two feet of the national
mark had he not fallen.
Six of the first 13 jumpers

Malcolm Campbell, holder of the
world's water speed record,
pleaded guilty today to a charge
of speeding on land.
Police said he was driving his
car at 38 miles an hour on the
highway. Sir Malcolm paid ten
shillings (two dollars) costs and
the summons was dismissed.
