laboratory reported In the Ore
gon Health Bulletin Thursday
that 24 of 81 laboratories author
ized in the atate to perform tests
for syphilis fail to meet fUt
standards.
Dr. William Levin said the
laboratories, which are used by
persons complying with Oregon
laws for premarital and prenatal
blood tests, would be required
to apply for new approval in
1947.

Governor To
Get New Car
SALEM. Dec. 1J W Gov
ernor Earl Snell said today he
has ordered a new state car for
himscli.
He said the car, which should
arrive soon, will be a 1948 Cad
illac. The 1940 Packard which the
state originally bought for the
governor has gone 120.000 miles,
Snell said, and is getting in bad
mechanical shape.
The Packard, the first state
car ever provided for an Oregon
governor, first was used by
former Gov. Charles A. Sprague,
Sncli's predecessor.

A Christmus program was en-
ioyed by a large group of mem
ors and friends at the Mills
PTA meeting on Wednesday
afternoon. "Oh Little Town of
Bethlehem" was sung by tho
audience after which the pro
gram chairmon, Mrs. J. K.
Cslder, turned the musical part
of the program over to the music
instructor, Miss Parsons, who
presented the mixed choir in
"Jingle Bells," Mrs. Howard's
fourth grade In "Festival of tho
Lights" and "Silent Night," and
Wayne Angel who played a
violin solo, "Andantino."
The Rev. Godfrey Matthews
gave several enjoyable Christ
mas readings including a poem.
"The House of Christmas and
three Christmas articles by the
late Haywood Broun.
The business meeting was con
ducted by the president, Mrs.
T. J. O'Harra. The room roll
call was won by Mrs. Howard's
fourth grade. It was voted to
sponsor a cub pack which will
meet at the school. Principal
Verne Speirs made several an
nouncements including one on
the basic school bill and the
separation of the auditorium for
class rooms, therefore there will
be no school Christmas program.
He also gave dates of vacation
foe, the remainder of the school
yeur and the closing dute of
June 6.
Refreshments were served In
the cafeteria from a prettily
decorated Christmas table under
the direction of the new tea
chairman, Mrs. II. E. Day, as
sisted by Mrs. A. A. Angel, Mrs.

Police Capture
Bank Bandits
DETROIT, Dec. 13 (II Two
men held up natrons of a Detroit
branch bank in an outlying sec
tion Thursday, but were cap
tured by police as they started
out the rear door with an esti
mated $.10,000, all of which was
recovered.
Police said the men. armed
with pistols, ordered tellers to
hand them the money and then
locked them in a vault. While
they were gathering up the
money, an employe stepped on
an alarm button.
As two police sergeants were
about to enter the rear door, the
bandits appeared and Immed
iately surrendered to the officers
with drawn pistols.
