condition of Roberta Rogers. Sa
lem, Ore., seriously injured
when she fell off an upper bunk
at Eastern Washington College
of Education, was reported "im
proved Monday.

Rogers, Oregon state forester,
underwent an emergency opera
tion after she fell and struck the
sharp edge of a dresser, piercing
the abdominal cavity.
College officials at Cheney
said she had climbed onto an up
per bunk for a nap, instead of
using her own lower bunk.
When her alarm clock sounded,
officials said, she instinctively
jumped up, reached for it, and
fell.
