Dies After
Auto Wreck
Joseph l'elilind, S:, of 4510
Boardinun, died at 9:45 this
morning ut Hillside hospital as
a result of Injuries sustained in
an uutoiiiobilo accident curly
Monduy morning a few miles
north of Merrill on highway 30.
Mrs. I'cllund, in the cur with
her husband, was only slightly
injured, and Raymond A. Hor
terfieid of Dorrls, named by
Mrs. I'cllund as driver of the
second cur involved, was un
hurt. Slate police who investigated
say that the I'cllund cur ap-x-ured
to have been parked
along the highway when it wus
struck by the I'orlerflcld auto
mobile, ulthough definite details
urc not known.
Pelland was brought uncon
scious to Klamath Valley hos
pital where he was said to be
suffering from a fractured
skull, broken ribs and severe
internal Injuries. He wus re
moved to Hillside hospital for
surgery lust night.
I'cllund has lived here off
and on since 1034. He was a na
tive of Spaulding, Mich., and is
survived by bis wife, May, of
this city, two duughtvrs, three
brothers nnd four sisters. Fu
neral arrangements arc under
the direction of the Earl Whit
lock funeral home.

Ford To Sell Special Cars
For Disabled Veteran Use
Disabled veterans can once
more take to the open road
through the courtesy of the Ford
Motor company. A new car,
especially equipped for use by
the veteran who has lost an
arm or leg li now on the mar
ket, and la (old at no addition
al cost.
Available to veterans of World
War II only, the car Is design
ed with an automatic clutch,
bund throttle and brake, and
hund operated controls of all
kinds so that It may be driven
by a man who has lost either
arms or legs.
A demonstrator model is now
at Bnlsiger'a, brought to Klam
ath Falls by Mr. Turner, Ford
service department, from Rich
mond, Calif. The car is equip
ped with a lever on the left side
of the wheel, opposite the gear
shift lever, that operates both
throttle and brakes. Pull down
on the lever and you open the
throttle, push up on It and you
apply brakes.
The clutch is automatic, work
ing on a vacuum principle.
Whenever power is taken off
the clutch automatically disen
gages, thus precluding any pos
sibility of a stall when the
brakes are applied.

yesterday for the Rev. Thomas
W. Atkinson, 88, pioneer Oregon
Methodist minister who died Fri
day. lie was a Willamette univer
sity graduate and his first assign
ment was as a circuit rider in
Oregon, Washington and Idaho.
Later he served pastorates in
eastern Oregon. Portland was his
home for the last 33 years.
