Ervin Dusak, virtually unknown rookie outfielder of the St.
Louis Cardinals is the fairhaired boy to thousands in St. Louis
"Four Sack Dusak," "The Bohemian BlaMer." last night ham
mered what may become one of the most important blows of the
National league pennant race.
The 26-year-old native of Chicago clouted a three-run pinch
hit ninth inning home run in Sportsmans park to give the Cardi
nals a 5-4 victory over the league-leading Brooklyn Dodgers and
move the Redbirds to within a half game of the Brooks.
Dusak baited fcr Pitcher Howie Pollct after Southpaw Joe
llallcn had nicked Marty Marion with a pitched ball and Clyde
Kluttz singled. After fouling off a pitch and taking called
second strike, Dusak crashed Hatten's next offering into the left
field stands before 26.591 fans. .
The righthanded swinging Dusak broke into organized ball

What appears to be another
killer-dillcr week for the two
pace-setting clubs of the Pacific
Coast league got under way last
nisht, with both San Francisco
and Oakland winning against
Iocs which tallied the greater
number of hits.
The league-leading San Fran
cisco Seals knocked off the
Stars in Hollywood 4-3 for their
11th straight victory, but only
because they managed to bunch
three bingles in one inning
the third and capitalized on
Alf Anderson's error. The Stars
got an even dozen hits to the
Seals' eight.
At Oakland the Acorns owed
their 4-1 victory over the Los
Angeles Angels to mighty Les
Scarsella, who broke up a tight
pitching duel by driving in two
runs with a single to right with
the bases loaded and the score
1-all in the sixth frame.
This allowed the Acorns to
maintain their place one-half
game behind the Seals, even
though outhit 7-5. Frank Shea
went the entire distance and
was credited with the win.
At Sacramento Al Vitalich
pitched the San Diego Padres
to a 4-0 win over the Solons to
break 8 long San Diego losing
streak. The Padres went to
work in the first inning to
clinch the game then and there.
Portland shut out Seattle 5-0
in a game at Portland featur
ing the cellar rivals. Roy Helser
was the winning hurler.

fair rent committee was formed
here yesterday by owner repre
sentatives, designed to discour
age drastic rent Increases in the
Portland area.
The committee, representing
the Portland Home Builders' as
sociation, the Oregon Motor
Court association,' Portland
Realty Board, Hotel Association
of Portland and Oregon Apart
ment House association, drew
up the following four-point pro
grame: To lend advice and assistance
to tenants; to discourage dras
tic and unwarranted rent in
creases; to investigate rent in
crease complaints, and to give
assistance in housing veterans.

Borowy Seeks
Blister Cure
CHICAGO. July 17 (?' Cub
Pitcher Hank Borowy, who has
finished only one uf 14 starts this
season, believes he has hit on a
cure for his blisters which have
turned him from a star into an
occasional workman.
"Every night for more than a
week." he says, "I have been
rubbing this finger (the second
finger of his right hand) on a
baseball right along the seams
for half an hour at a time.
Already it has toughened up. and
as soon as the soreness goes from
the forefinger I'll give it the
same treatment."

Into Valley
A trip over the Grecnsprings
with a night baseball game on
the other end is on the agenda
for the Klamath Sons tonight.
The locals go to Medford to
play a second game with the
Craters under the lights at
Medford's fairgrounds.
The game is scheduled to
start at 8:30. Early in the sea
son the Sons stumbled before
the Craters 8 to 3. and this is
the first opportunity that the
Klamaths have had to meet the
Craters again.
Medford is in the Southern
Oregon - league, the same loop
as the Roscburg Umpqua Chiefs,
with whom Klamath split a
doubleheader over the Fourth
of July period.

Peters In Second
A straight, maul-like right to
the button spelled good night fur
Johnny Peters midway of the
second round of the armory main
event last night, and Merrill's
Ursa I Snapp marked up a kayo
over the chunky Eureka, Calif.,
lightheavy.
Peters was caught fair on the
chin by the blow and dropped
face downward on the canvas.
As Referee Wally Moss tolled off
the count, Peters rolled over on
his side and was struggling to
get his legs under him.
It was the second time Peters
had been down that round. The
first canto passed with a good
deal of slugging and an edge
for Snapp. Early in the second
Snapp let one of Peters' lefts
slide over his shoulder and
Johnny's momentum, aided by in-
punches, took him to the floor,
where he stayed for nine seconds.
The semi-final between Johnny
Jones and Teddy Roosevelt went
to a unanimous five-round de
cision for Jones, although Teddy
had his best round in the fifth.

The tentative hunting regula
tions for this fall which have
been announced by the state
game commission will probably
get a thorough going over to
night by members of the Isaak
Walton league when the sports
men and conservationists meet
in the Willard hotel.
The meeting, with Keri Mc
Leod presiding, is scheduled to
begin at 8 p. m.
Frank McCormack. who was in
attendance at the game commis
sion's hearing in Portland last
week when the tentative deer
and elk laws were formulated, is
expected to report to the Ikes
on why various phases of the
regulations were written in.
