Read In Merrill
Before an altar banked with pink and while gladioli and white
Jouble flock, palmi and lighted white taper. Iva Jane Haskins,
daughter of Mr. and Mm. Luther Haskins of Merrill, became the
bride of Mr. Leonard Will of Dayton in an eight o'clock cere
mony Sunday, June 30. in the Merrill Presbyterian church. The
lervfce was read by Rev. Hugh Bronson, pastor of the Tulclake
Community Presbyterian church.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of
traditional while satin and lace with finger-tip illusion veil caught
r.ith a iweetheart ruffled cap
centered with orange blossoms.
Her only Jewelry was a neck
Ihcc gift of the groom. She car
ried a hoop arrangement of
shattered white carnations cen
tered with a corsage to be worn
for traveling.
Virginia Thoeness of Port
land was maid of honor and her
frock of ice blue nylon, made
with bouffant skirt and tight
bodice, was complimented with
a hoop arrangement of yellow
daisies with which she wore a
matching head band.
Bridesmaids were Margaret:
Niskanen of Bend, in a frock
of yellow lace, and Coral Mor-1
ton of Medford. cousin of the
bride. In blue taffeta. Miss
Niskanen carried a hoop of deep
blue delphinium and wore a
matching headband of the same
flower, and Miss Morton car
ried a similar arrangement of
blue and white delphinium witn
matching floral arrangement in ;
her hair. j
Cecil Will, cousin of the
groom, of Dayton, was best man
and ushers were La Verne Has-!
kins of Bonanza, brother of the I
bride, and Wilbur Haskins, of i
Merrill, a cousin.
Preceding the ceremony Mel
Erickson of Malin sang three
numbers, "Because," "Through
the Years" and "Beloved, Tis
Morn." He sang also "The
Lord's Prayer" at the conclu
sion of the ceremony. He was
accompanied at the piano by
Mrs. Lillian Thomason who also
played the wedding marches.
Mrs. Haskins chose for her
daughter's wedding a shell pink
cable net suit with white acces
sories. The grooms parents
were unable to be present.

on July 9 at the parish hail in
Langell Valley in honor of Mrs.
Ervin Pool, the former Florence
Nork. Hostesses for the affair

Picnic Plans
The Degree of Honor held a
business meeting in the KC hall
Monday. July 8 at 8 p. m. with
Dolly Cox, president, in charge.
Plans were made for the picnic
to be held Sunday, July 21, and
also for the district convention
to be held this fall in Bend.
The drill team was reorganized
and all members of the team
should be sure to attend prac
tice July 22.
Following the meeting mem
bers enjoyed a nohostess supper
at a local coffee shop.

Mrs. Alice Haas was called to
Arcadia last week by the death
o( her mother, a resident of
Inglewood. who was visiting a
daughter at the time of her
passing. Funeral services were
held Saturday . Mrs. Haas, who
is just recovering from a major
operation will remain in the
south where she plans to take
a California state beautician
examination for teaching. The
Haas beauty shop will remain
open during her absence.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Thomas
and daughter, Mrs. Arthur Mar
tin and son. Marvin Jr., and
Mrs. Thomas' sister, Mrs. Mar
ian Baldwin of Los Angeles,
spent the weekend in Portland
where they attended memorial
services for the late John M.
Haley, father of Mrs. Thomas
and Mrs. Baldwin who Dassed
away in England last April.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Larsen
have returned from a visit in
San Francisco and Turlock.
While in San Francisco Larsen
received medical treatment in a
San Francisco hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Ryckman
have returned from an extend
ed visit at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Paul Prenger in San Di
ego where they welcomed a
new grandson, Paul Ryckman
Prenger. Mrs. Prenger is a
daughter of the Ryckman 's and
the new boy, first in the fam
ily, has an older sister. While
south Mr. and Mrs. Ryckman
stopped also at Chico where
they visited a daughter, Caro
lyn, who is employed there.
Norman, a younger son, re
turned home with them.
Dorothy Thomas, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Thom
as, returned over the weekend
from Asilomar near Carmel
where she attended a regional
conference of YWCA and
YMCA delegates from Califor
nia, Arizona. Nevada and Ha
waii. Miss Thomas, student at
the University of Nevada, Reno,
is president of the campus
YWCA for the coming term.
There are nine regional units in
the United States. At the Cali
fornia conference 20 colleges
were represented and 350 stu
dents attended from June 29
through July 5. Miss Thomas,
only representative from Tule
lake, attended as one of six del

scheduled for July 8, when bids
on construction of a proposed
water softening plant were to
have been opened. Only one
bid was submitted and inquiry
will be made on several other
companies who had expected to
