the ball while Eddie Hanlon,
old-time baseball player, ooks on
with envy.
Jeffries is rigged out in a
coonfkin cap, a la Dan 1 Boone,
and is wearing fringed leggings
and what appears in the picture
to be an ordinary pair of dress
pants and a white shirt.
Eddie Hanlon, scratching his
chin in wonderment at the plate
stance of the champ, is rakishly
attired in a pure Alexander
Dumas costume of long velveteen
coat, knee breeches, wide ruffled
collar and cuffs, pork-pie hat and
cold-steel sidearms.
You can tell that he is not a
bit player in an early movie
mob scene by the fact that he
appears to have on baseball shoes
and wool sox.
The old clipping was found by
Daniel L. Seiber while doing
some construction work at Tom
Watters old insurance office on
Main, the Green Construction
company is doing the work and
this picture was found in the
office'! double floor.
Seiber is going to send the old
clipping to Jim Jeffries' restau
rant in Los Angeles.
A glance through some old
baseball records discloses that
Hanlon was quite a baseball
.player back a decade or two
"before the turn of the century.
This record book, which goes
into everything but the number
of times various batters have
been struck on the left hip pocket
by a pitched jcurveball, comes
up with the information that
Edward H. Hanlon led all the
outfielders in the major leagues
-with errors in 1880, 1884, 1685
and 1891.
He was playing with Cleve
land, Detroit and Pittsburgh dur
ing the time, and the book merci
fully fails to state how many
errors he committed in each of
those years.

ceived a telegram from a gentle
man in Aberdeen, Wash., want
ing to know how were chances
for employment of any sort and
housing of any sort in Klamath
Falls. '
So, not being affiliated with
the chamber of commerce except
but casually, we wired back to
the effect that if he had a house
in Aberdeen he'd better stay
there even if he starved to death
for lack of employment.

Hatfield, clean-up swinger in
every game, now has collected
17 hits in 39 times at the plate,
including three triples and a dou
ble. Bishop has hit safely 16
times in 25 times up, and his
triple against Weed was his sec
ond of the season in league play.
Hatfield has scored 11 times and
Fran Miller has come across the
plate for an even dozen runs.

All these figures relate only to
the nine Northern California
league games played by the
Sons.
Taking into consideration the
pair of kings-X games with the
Roseburg Umpqua Chiefs. Bish
op got only one hit in five tries
while the Sons were clubbing
out 20 hits in the second Rose
burg tilt, dropping his average
to .567.

Klamath in Playoff
After the schedule is exhaust
ed, the two top teams will meet
in a playoff series, and there is
very little chance of those two
teams being any other than
Klamath Falls and Weed.
The Sons are also contemplat
ing another game or so with
Roseburg. have an offer from the
Ashland Elks and would like a
revenge game with the Medford
-raters, who beat the Sons 8-3
in a pre-eeason engagement.
Ryan Slates
Trip To Bend
Ed Ryan, football coach at
KUHS, is planning to take a
group of high school athletes
and prospective athletes to Bend
to see a pro football game August
2 and asks boys interested in
making the trip to meet with
him at the high school audito
rium Saturday at 7:30.
The Brooklyn Dodger, foot-
Dan professionals, will- train in
Bend and have slated an inter
squad game for August 2 and
August 9.
If enough boys are interested
in making the trip up Ryan may
also take another group up 'for
the later game. There will be
some expense involved, he said,
for tickets, meals and the like.
but Ryan has arranged for a
sen ool dus for transportation.
He wants the boys interested
in going to give him their names
Saturday night and he will ex
plain the trip further.

Trapped in conveyor belt roll

legs, a 46-year-old engineer
saved himself today by throwing
tin cans until he hit an electric
switch which shut off the pow
er. George Ross of Saugus aimed
for his life 30 times before he
scored the hit which stopped the
rollers.
Dragged into the machine
above the knees, at the Potter
Drug and Chemical companv,
Ross twisted a jacknife out of
his pocket and cut through
heavy four-foot belt.
When this failed to stop the
machine, he grabbed cans
spilled from the belt and hurled
them at a wall switch six feet
away until he hit it. .
