2nd Softball
Half Begins
The econd half of the men's
Softball league will get under
way tonight at 8:30 when the
Four-Star Merchants meet the
Elks on Recreation field, and
Palmerton's Lumber company
will play the Moose at Apple
gate. The Merchants landed In
a lust-place tie during the first
half, and Palmertnn marie a tie
for third, while Moose and Elks
knotted over first and second
positions during the first half.
A full double schedule has
been worked out for the second
half, with games both at Recrea
tion and Applegate fields every
Monday, Wednesday and Friday
nights throughout the remainder
of July. Each of the seven teams
will have a schedule of six games.
The second half will end July
31, at which time there will be
playoffs between the top two
team of each half.

SALEM, July 8 (P) Mr.
Buddy Ryan, wife of the man
ager of the Wcnatchce base
ball team, caught a Jewel thief
here Saturday afternoon, but
she was scared afterward
when she found he was armed
with on ax.
Police said Quentin Nelson,
23, Salem, chopped a hole In
the Jewelry store window with
nn ax, and took two diamond
rings with a combined value
of $320. Mrs. Ryan, one of
many shoppers on the crowded
street, grabbed the man and
held him for the police. She
snid she didn't know he had
the ax.
Police sent the man to the
stnle hospital, from which lie
was released a year ago.
