some clever boxing, but Miller's
heavier punches began to tell in
the third. He knocked Blackis
down for eight counts in tlx
third and again for nine early
In the fourth.
Squatty Indian Johnny Peters
of Eureka made very quick work;
of LeRoy Berkley in their gcheri
uled five-round llghtheavy bout.
After a few seconds of sparring
Peters bulled his way in and
tagged Barkley with a left hook
for a seven count.
Then, seconds later, Peters
broke in again, pushing Barkley
into the ropes, set him up with
his left and amashed a right
swing to the chin. LeRoy was
still on his knees and one hand
at the count of 10.
Rudy Carlson gained a hotly
contested split decision over Gay
lor Hatcher In the top four
rounder, welter division. In the
second heat Hatcher pounded
away at Rudy'i face until It was
all hacked up, but Carlson
held the offensive as Gaylor tired
but wouldn't go down.
Bert Snell danced and Jabbed
and occasionally mixed with Don
Reynolds for a unanimous de
cision in that lightweight duel.
Snell's mouth was bloody In the
second, but in the fourth he had
Reynolds covering up under a
rain of blows.
The opener, also lightweight,
went to a unanimous decision for
Bobby Hannon over Bob Barney.
Hannon had a longer reach and
kept Barney away with his left.
