tioned here for about six weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. Ben C. Dey ar
rived at Cascade Summit to
spend their vacation at their
auinmer home here. Dey is chief
counsel for the Southern Pacific
company at Sun Francisco.

an extended trip which will take

To Be Put On Sale

of surplus shipbuilding mater
ials and ship equipment from
Portland shipyards will go on
sale here July 8, Regional Di

ly of thia city and now of Astoria.

Falls, an ex-army infantryman, I
was the first of the fledgling I

his own control. He got in his
eight hours of dual Instruction
between Monday and Thursday
and soloed on Thursday. From
the looks of things at the port
he'll be followed by a good
many more very shortly.
George Dusette, the new Pa
cific coast Junior heavyweight
champion, flew in for his scrap
with Marllno Angelo Ihursday
night. George flies a BT-13,
which to the uninitiated is a
basic trainer gotten from the
army. He left again on Friday.
Louis Soukup, Klamath Bus
lines owner, arrived back in
Klamath yesterday from a three
week air tour of the cast coast.
Flying a Bcachcraft, Soukup at
tended the 300-mile Indianapo
lis race on his trip. Following
that he flew over most of New
England and the east before
starting for home.
Students are coming In from
everywhere for the new GI
course in flying. Three men
from the CAA weather station
at the field have signed up with
Oregon Aircraft, J. C. Powers
among them, and two from the
post office are flying with Orc
fcon, L, E. Propst and J. C. Lin
ville. Allan Mocnbce, manager of
Oregon Aircraft Service, says
that he still has room for IS to
20 more students under his fly
ing schedule. Vets wishing to
sign up are requested to contact
Mocabcc as soon as possible in
order that permanent flight
schedules may be set up.
Joe Hicks, Klamath business
man, flew to Portland on Tues
day and returned on Wednes
day. Joe reports a good trip both
ways.
Cliff Hogue and Marshall
Cornell took to the air last week
for an afternoon fishing Jaunt
over to tho cast of here some
where. What luck they had no
one knows, but Marshall Cornett
said they set the plane down In
a cow pasture close to the creek
and had a lot of fun.
Shasta Cascade Flying Serv
ice has two new instructors, and
more on the way, according to
Manager Ray Royce. Jim Har
per, ex-army, a Portlander, is
here now and doing full duty
in the air, and Franklin J. Zer-
olsky, another Portland boy. Is
on his way to the field.
Starting next Wednesday,
Dave Zumwalt, head instructor
for Shasta Cascade, will be re
lieved on duty as a flying in
structor and will spend most of
his time making test hops with
students. Night school is ex
pected to start for ground in
struction some time next week,
according to Dave.

Thursday's wind didn't do the
municipal field any good, but no
real damage was done. One
plane, an Aeronca, was blown
over and the fabric skinned
around the right wing tip, but
it's all fixed now and in good
shape.
Six Fatally Burned
In Kansas Farm Fire
OTTAWA. Kas.. June 15 UPl
Six persons were burned to
death early today in a fire
which destroyed a farm home
near the village of Centropolis,
Kas., 15 miles northwest of
here.
The victims were: Winifred
L. Flory, 36: his wife Ruth E.
Garbcr Flory, 32, and their
four children. Ruby 9; Marie
7; Leroy 4, and Margaret, one
year old.
Lanham Extension
Pleases Schools

Portland school officials, learn
ing the senate had approved ex
tension of the Lanham act, said
the federal funds would greatly
help balance this city's school
budget.
A substantial deficit confront
ed the school district after fail
ure of plans to call a special
tax election.
Willard B. Spalding, superin
tendent of schools, said it would
not be known how much Port
land, situation is improved
"until we learn the amount we
can expect to secure and re
view the budget." He reported
the city would make application
for about $1,386,000, but said
the federal works agency ad
vised officials to expect a 30
per cent cut in estimates.

Dies Accidentally
VANCOUVER, June 15 (CP)
Portia, Vancouver's famous
bloodhound, died an acci
dental death here late last
night. The dog, valued at $2500
suffered internal injuries when
it attempted to leap through an
open basement window.
