tension specialist in seed certifi
cation at OSC said on his return
from a check of Oregon seed
planted In Kern coumy, Calif.
Dr. J. A. Milbrath, assoclnto
plant pathologist, and McCain
bridge spent a week In Kern
county checking the -number of
diseased potato plants in fields
representing 15 lots of Oregon
potatoes against sample produc
tion tests read early this year at
Ocoanside, Calif., on the same
lots. The disease counts checked
closely with the previous sam
ples tested at Oceanside, under
the seed certification program,
McCambridge explained.
The field checks indicate that
representative sampling of last
year's crop of potatoes in the
field or bin under the seed cer
tilication program was satisfac
tory. The true condition of the
seedslock was correctly analyzed
prior to field planting. Though
this one year's check is not a re
search project, it indicates that
the test plot samples at Ocean
side are a good indication of the
quclity of the seed, Oregon certi
fication specialists conclude.
Vets Get Bulk
Of Machinery
That veterans returning to
farms are getting most of Ore
gon's share of the dwindling
supply of new farm machinery
is evidenced by reports from
county AAA committees on vet
erans' preference certificates is
sued during the preceding
month.
The state PMA office reports
that county committees during
the period March 21 to April 20
received 653 applications from
veterans, issued 540 certificates
and granted 549 extensions on
certificates previously issued
which had not been filled before
the expiration dates. A total of
129 certificates were satisfied by
dealers during the period.

The following formula Is recom
mended by the county agent's
ottlce: bran 12 pounds, sodium
(Uiosilteate 1 pound, fish oil 1
quart. Mix dry bran and sodium
lluosillcutc, then add fish oil and
mix again. Use no water. Scat
ter the bait along fences, plies
of boards, woodpiles, trees or
other places where earwigs may
hide. The poison also is scattered
over the lawn, after which It is
best to wait two duyg before
sprinkling the lawn agnln. The
(ormolu given is enough (or una
application to an area 8000
square feet. The mixture can
be varied according to the area
to treat if the proportions are
the same.

POTATO FACTORY
A joint meeting of the Storch and Glucose com
mittee, Tuleloke Crowers, and Klamath Pototo
Growers Activities Committee held in Tulelake
Growers office May 1st decided a representative
committee of both ossociotions make a trip of in
spection to Wenotchce, Wash., to inspect the
Northwest Chemurgy Co-operative and take along
a certified public accountant.
The purpose: to clarify the financial condition
and the handling of money being put in escrow
here for construction of a storch and glucose
plant in the Klamath Basin.
The undersigned committee made the inspec
tion May 9th. Mr. Paul Matthews, local C P A.,
was given access to all accounting. Mr. Matthews
gave a very favorable report to o joint committee
at a meeting in Tulelake Moy 14th. The commit
tee believes Northwest Chemurgy Co-operative it
doing a good job. The published lotter definitely
states how local money is to be handled.
We believe these statements make oil ques
tions clear.
