PCL Shakeup
Drags Bevos
Into Cellar
By The Associated Press
The Pacific Coast baseball
league baseball clubs had one
of their greatest personnel shake-
ups this season, and as a result
the two teams which dominated
the wind-up last year are the
low men on the ladder today.
Defending the pennant, the
Portland Beavers, who got less
out of the re-shuffle than most
of the rest of the clubs, have
been dragged into the cellar with
22 losses in 36 starts.
Just ahead of them with the
same number of losses and 15
wins are the Seattle Rainiers,
who finished second last year.
The league has developed into
a much better pitchers' loop than
during the war years, and the
two northern teams can blame
much of their trouble on failure
to keep the pace in that depart
ment. In power at the plate, the Rai
niers have kept up, and today
have a team batting average sec
ond only to Hollywood. Head
liners for the Rainiers include
Harold Sueme, with an average
of .370 in 19 games up to Friday;
Bill Ramsey, with .348 in 34
games, and Ted Norbert, with
.317 in 16.
The Beavers stand sixth in
team batting average, with the
best individual performance so
far turned in by Herman Reich,
hitting .315 in 29 games.

NEW YORK, May 7 CVi The hearing on the application of
President Larry MticPhail of the New York Yankees for an in

Justice Julius Miller granted the postponement over the pro

said the club would be on the road at that time. Hess said his
client needed more time to prepare for the proceedings.
In St. Louis, Federal Judge Rubcy M. Hulen issued a tem
porary restraining order enjoining the Pasquel organization from
"unlawfully interfering" with the Brooklyn Dodgers and set May
14 for hearing on a request for a permanent injunction filed for

Bernardo Pasquel, vice presi

to the supreme court to estab

offer better salaries than are
now open to baseball players on
the North American continent."
"We have offered baseball
players better salaries, im

the Yankee hearing. "We come
into court with no apologies for
these actions."
Big Surprise Coming

while en route back from a hur

believed "St. Louis is the cen
