How to prepare old
time meat favorites
There's nothing like one of these oM-lime
meal favorites for aatisfying hearty appe
tite and bringing word of praise to the
cook. Moat of them are easy en the budget,
too.

have steak cut 1 to 2 inches thick. Sprinkle
with salt and pepper and roll in flour. Pound

ing in Dutch oven or heavy frying pan. Add
2 cups of water, cover, and cook slowly for
2 ' j hour or until meat it tender Add more
water, if necessary,, to make the desired
amount of gravy. Serve with fluffy mashed
potatoes

About a half hour before the pot roast it done
put in peeled potatoes, carrots and onions and
you'll haw a complete meat. Sprinkle 3
pound lamb houlder with salt and pepper
and roll in flour. Brown in melted shortening
in a Dutch oven or deep kettle with tight
fitting lid. Add 2 cup of hot water, a medium-sized
onion thinly sliced and a bay
leaf. Cover and cook slowly about 3 hours
or until tender. Add more water if necessary.

BRAISED SHORT RIBS

(or generations. Try tenting with home-made
noodles.
Have 3 pounds of short ribs cot hi serving
site pieces. Brown slowly, turning often, in
a small amount of shortening in a heavy
kettle with tight fitting cover. Add cup of
hot water, alt and pepper. Cover and cook
lowly until meat i tender, about 1 H to 2
hour. Serve the liquid s gravy or add more
water and thicken with flour blended to a
smooth paste with cold water Serves 6.
