Biggest news of tho moment to
at least 15 people (the staffers)
In Klamath Falls was the open
ing of KFLW yesterday. Tho
culmination of five years of ef
fort, tho opening was attended
with a certain amount of nerv
ousness among the staff, but
nothing too bad.
Chuck Cecil, staff announcer
started the ball rolling In the
"boot" line by coming In, when
the program was Just five words
old, with "strallon" KFLW. Ho
was followed in short order by
Bob McCnrl, who introduced
"Funk" Jenkins as n speaker on
tho program. Nice goiu lads.
Most serious caso of gloating
Is reported In the cuso of Mel
Baldwin, program and produc
tion man. Taking advantage of
his position (according to the
other announcers) he wrote him
self out of the opening script.
All he hod to do was sweat out
the tlmo In tho control room.
And along that line, Baldwin
says It was a tough go until ho
got to the first brief talk on thn
program. When it ended right
on tlmo to tho second he knew
the rest of tho program would
go off all OK. Thai "whoosh"
you might have heard was his
sigh of relief.
Now, after a long, long time,
we can throw off the title
"Klamath Falls Long Walt" and
.my "KFLW is on the air." Wc'ro
glad to be there, and hope you're
