The newly organized Pelican
City chapter of the PTA elected
officers at its March 20 meeting.
The officers who will serve the
1940-47 term are Mrs. M. Riley,
president; Mrs. Merton Wilson,
first vice president; Mrs. Agnes
Lageson, second vice president;
,Mrs. L. Brauner, treasurer, and
iMrs. J.-A. Blcvlns, secretary.
Mrs. Grover L. Yantis was
chairman of the day Mrs. Lage
son will also serve as member
ship and conduct a drive for new
members.

critical teacher shortage, with
the older ones retiring and no
prospects to take their place,

Riverside
Tuesday, April 2, the River
side PTA will sponsor a Cub
pack at the school at 7:30 o. m
and all parents, both fathers and
motners, are urged to attend
The meeting is called in the
school auditorium. There will
be a technicolor sound film on

Fathers Night is slated for
Thursday, April 11, and Mrs.
Donald Cram is chairman of the
refreshments committee.
National Education association,
asserted here.
The Kansas City. Kas,. edu
cator, addressing the annual
btato ieacners association con
vention, said, "You've got to
have people prepared and
young people simply are not en
tering the educational field any
more."
He blamed Inadequate pay,
and the difficulty presented by
communities expecting too
much of teachers, . compared
with other professions.
Schlagle declared, "One out
of every 10 teachers In the sys
tem today is sub-standard," and
said grade schools are likely to
break down completely. He
called this "a problem of tragic
proportions."
