General Session
Mombors of the Woman's Society of Christian Service of the
First Methodist church held their general meeting in tne cliurcli
parlors Thursday, February 28, beginning with the study class
"at 10:30 a. m., under the leadership of Miriam Smythe. At noon
. there was a sack lunch, and the prayer circle led by Mrs. John
Yadon, was well attended. Mrs. Earl Redman, president of the
society, conducted the general meeting. Mrs. L. K. Phelps was

meeting 'and Mrs. Walter Hern
don announced that the cottage
prayer meetings would con
tinue. March 8 will be the
World Day of Prayer, and will
be observed this year at the
Community Congregational
church.
Mrs. L. A. Brannan' reported
that sewing, intended for the
Philippine islands, has been re
ceived and consists of layettes
and clothing for small children.
A number of articles were as
signed to different members
; who were willing to make
them up.
Mrs. Walter Herndon, spirit
ual life chairman, was in charge
of the devotional hour, and she
was assisted by Mrs. Victor
Phillips, Mrs. Earl Redman and
Mrs. L. A. Brannan, and Mrs.
Elliott sang several solos suited
to the theme of the day, "Con
go's Gifts Through the Cross,"
accompanied by Mrs. Fred
Cofer.
Miss Smythe presented a
radio skit which took the listen
ers on a tour of the mission
schools throughout the world.
Miss Smythe acted as announcer
and she was assisted by Mrs.
George Casper, Mrs. Laurence
Baker. Mrs. John Riach, Mrs.
E. D. Chilcote, Mrs; C. H. Barn
stable, Mrs. Joseph uiacner,
Mrs. L. K. Phelps, Mrs. G. W.
Gilcrist, Mrs. Harry Johnson
and Mrs. T. P. Windham
Esther circle served tea fol
lowing the program, and the
chairman, Mrs. J. D. Gillespie,
was assisted by Mrs. L. A. Bran
nan and Mrs. E. H. Balsiger.
The tea table was attractively
arranged with blue Dutch iris
and daffodils, and Mrs. John
Riach and Mrs. John Yadon
presided at the tea service.

Birthday
The fourth birthday of Jolynn
Zimmerman, daughter of Mrs.
Marjorie Zimmerman of 915
Donald, fell on February 24, and
last Saturday a group of friends
enjoyed the birthday cake and
trimmings at the family home.
Present were Jolynn and Di
ane Wolter, Geraldine and Ste
phen Nye, Susan, Sarah and
James Porter, Mary Ann and
Judy Danielson, Don Schuss,
Marian Mullins and Irma Jo
Scroggins.
An event of last week at the
Alpha Delta Pi chapter house in
Eugene was the announcement of
the engagement of Margaret
Murphy, daughter of Mrs. H. H.
Slaughter and D. B. Murphy of
Kiamatn rails, to Dewey E.
Mosier of San Francisco.
The engagement was an
nounccd at a surprise fireside
where clever announcements
were distributed and the trad!
tional boxes of chocolates were
passed to the sorority sisters of
the bride-elect.
Miss Murphy, who will be
graduated from the University of
Oregon in June, is a member of
Pi Lambda Theta, national wom
en's education honorary, and Al
pha Delta Pi, social sorority.
Mosier recently returned from
China where he served lor lo
months as a liaison pilot with the
14th air force. No date has been
set for the wedding.
Neighbors
Neighbors of Woodcraft met in
the KU hall Monday at 8 p. m.,
with Alta Clark, guardian neigh
bor, presiding. Plans were made
tor installation oi otticers to oe
held at the meeting April 1. This
is to be an open meeting with
all officers and guards in formal
attire, and the committee in
charge of arrangements was
named. Stella Dryden will be
chairman and will be assisted by
Alta Clark, Mildred Smith, Wil
lan Floetke, Ellen Ely and Syl
via Brannan, installing officer.
Mamie Steinselfer. a member
of the lodge but now living in
Tacoma, was warmly greeted by
her old friends. A potluck sup
per was served at the close of
the business meeting. The next
meeting, March 18, will be test
night for the officers about to be
installed. There will be practice
for installation. I

BONANZA The Penny club
met at the home of Mrs. Daisy
Cox for a potluck dinner and an
afternoon of cards.
There were two tables of
bridge and one of pinochle. High
went to Mable Maxwell for
bridge and Maud Ferrell for pin
ochle. second nigh went to
Betty People for bridge and Ann
Olsen for Dinochle. Traveling
award went to Mrs. Ferrell and
Noma Bechdoldt.

Neighbors of Woodcraft met in
the KC hall at 4 p. m.. for a reg
ular business meeting. June Til-
