Makes Deal
With Braves
BELLINGHAM, Feb. 27 UP)
Gale Bishop, Washington State's
All-America basketball player,
told the Herald yesterday he
hos made a deal for himself with
the Boston Braves of the Nation
al league.
Bishop's announcement, made
from his father's farm at Sumas,
north of here, definitely re
moved him from the Washington
State lineup in its northern di
vision Pacific coast conference
basketball game with the Uni
versity of Idaho nt Moscow Sat
urday night. It also foreclosed
his prospects of winning the di
visional individual scoring toga.
The signing of one of basket
ball's greatest scoring machine
by the Boston club came as a
surprise both to Bishop and his
friends here.
He came home from college
early in the week to study of
fers from the Brooklyn Dodgers,
New York Yankees, Detroit Tig
ers, and Philadelphia Phillies
and said he was pondering their
proposals when Boston "came in
with an offer that I couldn't turn
down."
Bishop said he will receive a
"nice bonus from the Braves,"
but parried inquiries as to the
amount except to says it was
"double figures."
