Lyle Watts, chief of the forest I
service, has notified Rep. Ells

use M-3 demolition block, a
new and powerful explosive, to
remove snugs which form a flro
threat In the forests.

Columbia national forests, near
Portland.
Tho new explosive, somewhat
llko TNT but more powerful, Is
contained in small, 21 pound
packages which measure 2 Inches
by 2 Inches by 11 Inches long.
It will be placed on the snags
and detonated with a blasting
machine,
Ellsworth suggested the use
of the explosive to remove snags
and ' Watts asked the nrmy en
gineer! to assign experts to aid.
The explosive Is manufactured
by the ordnanco department for
use of the army engineers.
