For tho first time this winter
mail had to be postponed on
parts of one rural route when
high drifts In the road stopped
Elmer Klndcrdtck, route 2 postal
carrier, who was preventod by
hard-packed snow from making
all his deliveries Wednesday.
Drifts in the road near Pine
Grovo and the north end of Poe
valley district wore too hard to
drlvo through and too soft to
carry tho weight of the truck.
County road crews worked on
the blocked sections Thursday
and the warmer temperature as
sisted in melting the packed
snow so that all patrons wore
served In Poe valley area. There
were still Impassable section
elsewhere on the route.
Snowfall of the past two days
has made walking extremely dif
ficult for foot-carriers, slowing
down deliveries to one trio ner
day, Burt . Hawkins, Klamath
Kalis postmaster, stated. The
post office is muklng an honest
effort to completo trips over all
routes and the cooperation of pa
trons Is urgently reauested.
Snow not cleared from walks
and mail boxes can delay and
even prevent deliveries from
homes.
Many newcomors may not
know of the city ordinance con
ccrnlna clearing sidewalks in
front of residences, Hawkins
stated, and Chief of Police Or
ville Hamilton today urged real
dents to koep walks free of ico
and snow.
