Sift and measure flour; sift again
into large bowl with baking powder,
salt and sugar. Add milk, shortening,
' unbeaten' egg and flavoring. Beat
with rotary beater for 2 to 3 minutes
or until batter is smooth. Pour into
well-greased square cake pan (8 x 8 x
2). Bake in moderate oven (375 F.)
for 40 minutes or until done. Frost,
if desired. Serve hot or cold. Serves 6.
