    Third-Quarter
Dash Gives Pels
36-34 Victory
The Klamath Pelicans overcame a 19 to 10 half time deficit
last night on the KUHS maple by staging a spirited second half
rally to overwhelm the Grants Pass Cavemen 36 to 34 In a
Southern Oregon conference cage tilt.
The Cavemen forged to an early lead on two successive long
toms by Bertrand and Everton before Craig broke the ice for
Klamath with a looping one-hander. Coleman tallied twice and
Palmer once for the Pelicans during the first quarter and the
- period ended with the score deadlocked at eight-all.
Grants Pass ran wild in the second stanza to ring up 11 points
while holding the Pelicans to
two charity tosses and the end I s

Hell Catch
of the half found the Cavemen
out In front, 19 to 10.
1 The latter part of the ball
game was an entirely different
story, however, with the K-men
going on a third period scoring
spree of 17 counters. The Cave
men were able to collect only
eight points, enabling the Peli
cans to knot the count at 27 to
37.
The final frame was the pay
off as the Red-and-White hit
the bucket for nine points on
field goals by Craig, Hover and
Coleman and a gift flip by Pal
mer. Grants Pass threatened all
the way and a last-chance heave
by Bertrand failed by an eye
lash. The fast-break offensive of
the Klamath five began func
tioning smoothly in the last
half as Hover, Craig and Pal
mer drove in for easy set-up
shots with the Grants Pass de
fense caught flat-footed."
The men in the striped shirts
restrained themselves admira
bly last night from too zealous
tooting of their whistles and
the result was a well-played
and speedy ball game that had
the fans sitting on the edge of
their chairs.- Personal fouls
were evenly divided with 12
called on Klamath and 11 on
Grants Pass.
Palmer and Everton shared
high-scoring honors for the
game with 11 each and Cole
man and Lutz racked up nine
points apiece.
The two clubs will resume
their rivalry tonight on the
KUHS hardwood at 8:15 o'clock
with a preliminary tilt slated
between the Wildcats and Chil
oquln at 7 p. m.

New Photo Of You
God lifted off your sins and
put them on Christ. Then God
put on over you his own eternal
righteousness. Sins forever off
and his own righteousness for
ever on. So God's new photo
of you shows you a sinless
being, all in glorious raiment.
This is how he sees you from
the instant you lay hold on
Christ as having died for your
sins. But until then your sins
stand against you. See BIBLE.
s2. Cor. 5:21.
But you still slip. You are
to, yourself like the sheep in
the hog wallow. Still a sheep
but out of place. After serving
Christ' half a century, the be
loved - Apostle John felt the
same. Said he "If we say we
have no sin we decieve our
selves and the truth is not in
us." 1 John 1:8. And he says
to get back into step. Confess
your sin, take forgiveness. And
in it all God never quits us for
he that has begun a good work
in us will go on in it against
tbe day when Christ comes to
take us to Himself. See Phil.
1:6.
Jesus paid it all. All to Him
I owe. Sin had left a crimson
stain. He washed it white as
snow,

Conn Early
COLUMBUS, O., Jan. 26 (F)
Joe Louis says Billy Conn is
"three times a better boxer than
I am."
Conn fights Louis June 19 in
New York's Yankee stadium for
the world's heavyweight boxing
championship.
"I hope to catch him early,"
Louis said here yesterday.
"I figure if I can't knock him
out early, I should catch him
with a hard punch and rock
him. That would make him quit
boxing and make him slug it out
with me. ' You know, Conn is
three times a better boxer than
I am."
Joltin' Joe, weighing 220, said
he anticipated little difficulty in
losing 15 pounds before meeting
Conn. Also, he said he had no
intention of heeding Jack Demp
sey's warning to engage in a
few warm-up bouts before the
"big push."
"Billy isn't going to fight un
til then and neither am I so
it's going to be even, as far as I
can see," Louis declared.
The champion said he planned
to rest next month before be
ginning a two-month training
grind March 1.

A University of Idaho basket
ball gang got its fist in the north
ern division machinery last
night and twisted the Oregon
State1 cogs entirely out of shape,
a neat little trick that boosted
the University of Washington to
the driver's seat.
But Idaho didn't wallop OSC
42 to 37 just as a favor to Wash
ington's Huskies, who were
crushing Oregon at the same
time 57 to 46, or just for the
satisfaction of kicking the de
feated Beavers down into sec
ond place. The triumph left
Idaho firmly entrenched in third
spot, a game and a half back of
Washington and just a tilt below
their victims.
While Idaho was turning in
the neat trick of the week, Wash
ington ran wild against an Ore
gon team that is ready to swear
today its basket was wearing a
lid. The division's defending
champions got only two less
shots at the loop than did Wash
ington 76 to 78 but could
squeeze only 17 all the way
through while 22 goals swishes
the twine for Washington.

Girls Tiff
Remains
Uncertain
Whether the girl grnpplers
will come bnck to Klamath for
a mat rematch next Tuesday is
still a matter of speculation, but
if they do the set-up will be
about the same as last week's
armory bill.
Three bouts are already lined
up. Joe Lynam and Buck Lips
comb occupy the top spot, six
rounds or two out of three falls;
Pcto Belcastro and Pierre La
Belle in the semi, four rounds,
and Herbie Parks and Chester
Hayes in the opener of three
cmitoes,
A glance over the bill of fare
reveals that in the six grapplers
named above there are three
who have authentic claim to
titles in various championship
brackets. Lynam's is the coast
junior heavy toga. Parks' laurels
are Canadian and Hayes' cham
pionship lei is Hawaiian.
The reason for the holdup on
the girls is not that they don't
like Klamath Falls but that they,
particularly Miss Mortensen,
are asking too much money.
Promoter Mack Lillard signals
that she practically wants an
option on the armory.
Rita Martinez apparently isn't
so hard to get along with and
there is still another girl on the
circuit now, Betty McCoy, so
something may be worked out.
