committee of a drive to raise
550,000 for a nation-wide adver
tising program to attract tour
ists to the Sliusta-Cascade Won
derland. The executive committee, com
posed of J. R, Shannon, chair
man, Charles M. Ricker, presi
dent of the Redding chamber of
commerce, John J. Fitzpatrick of
McColl's Ice Cream company,
Glenn D. Newton, city attorney,
and Thomas B. Riley of the Red-ding-Alturas
stages, all of Red
ding, named Gcrig to the post
after a mcctinc of the board of
directors last week and author
ized the expansion of activities
of the Shasta-Cascade Wonder
land association.
The association, which during
wartime when traveling was re
stricted did . little advertising,
plans to expand its program for
the advancement ot anasia
Siskiyou, Modoc, Lassen, Trin
itv and Tehama counties in Call
fornia. and Jackson. Klamath
and Lake counties in Oregon, the
nine. counties of the Shasta-Cas
cade Wonderland.

"With fifteen and a half m
lion people in the United States
making detinue plans to travel
now that the war is over, we
forward-looking businessmen,
cannot afford to let the oppor
tunity go by to advertise the
scenic and recreational features
of our nine Wonderland coun
ties. Gene said.
"We know that travel-minded
people will go where they are
invited. We know many of them
are coming west. We know we
have in the Wonderland, features
that are unequaled anywhere
the world.
"Good business follows in the
wake of tourist trade. With
good advertising program we
know thousands of people will
visit the Wonderland, and after
that, they 11 came back again and
again.
Gerig pointed out that the as
sociation s program covers four
points: advertising, to bring the
tourist; the industrial expansion
which logically will follow: con
servation of the natural re
sources of the area; and an edu
cational program of service
the tourist "that when he once
visits the Shasta-Cascade Won
derland he will become the best
advertisement the region can
have.

Bob Arzner, an escapee from
the Oregon state hospital at
Salem, was arrested in Klamath
Falls last night, and jailed as
vagrant.
He is being returned to Salem
today. Police said that he had
been missing from the hospital
since uecemoer lu.

City Police
Jail Indian
Lee Harrington of Chiloquin,
a Klamath Indian, was jailed
last night by city police for fail
ure to yield the right of way
and also for possession of intoxi
cating liquor after an automobile
he was driving was involved in
a slight mishap at 7th and Oak.
Investigating police said that
Harrington was making a left
turn off Oak onto 7th and drove
into Uie path of a car driven by
James Wesley Sudberg, 530 S.
8th, who was coming east on
Oak.
Police found half a case of
beer in the Indian's car and said
that he had been drinking. Pearl
Foster, also an Indian, who was
in the car with Harrington, was
arrested on a drunk charge.

woods accidents this week was

rape upon his own 13-year-old
daughter, was sentenced to spend
the rest of his life in the Oregon
state penitentiary by Judgo

The act for which he was In
dicted occurred last November
