Magic Of A Smile
Bf EARL WHITLOCK
During the Christmas shop
ping rush, recently passed, I
happened to ba In a crowded
! store one day
when a little
o 1 d lady on
crutches came
In. Her face
. 1.ta UIH ...III.
3 the pain the ef
J fort of walking
ij cost her. But
she smiled! Not
a forced smile,
but something
from away
down deep within her.
The three girls at the counter
were busy. She saw that and
waited and, somehow, the girls
seemea to senso mat they had
an unusual customer and they
were extra courteous, "You are
very kind," the little old lady
said,. "I thank you." Just those
few simple words, yet the girls
behind the counter were made
happier. Things like that were
not usually said In busy stores
ai me ncigni or the holiday
rush. And I guess everybody
who was nenrby left the store
feeling kindlier to the world.
It just made me think that
maybe we need more little old
ladles on crutches. It Is won
derful, tho magic one of them
can create, as long as there are
no crutches In her heart.
Next Monday Mr. Whlllock
of tho Earl Whlllock Funeral
Homo will comment on "Tho
