WASHINGTON, Nov. 29 ()
President Truman said today he
saw no need for any more Big
Three conferences if the United
' Nations organization works as it
should.
: Asked at a news conference
whether revisions in allied con
trol policy and machinery for
Germany might require a meet
ing of himself, Generalissimo
Stalin and Prime Minister Att
lee, Mr. Truman said he was not
in favor of special conferences.
He wants the United Nations
to do its job, he added, assert
ing he remembers that the
League of Nations was ruined
by special conferences.
The president stated he hoped
the United Nations would take
over within the next 90 days all
the problems previously worked
out by Big Three meetings.
In his discussion of foreign
policy Mr. Truman also devel
oped these points:
1. He does not share either
the fear which he said some per
sons in the country hold that
Russia will not cooperate lowara
world peace or that Russia's poli
cies will lead to war. He was
very emphatic in stating he did
not share any such fears.
' 2. At a later date, the presi
dent will discuss fully the inter
national situation, particularly
as it involves efforts of the na
tions to cooperate for peace. The
discussion may be at a news conference.
- 3. Negotiations are now un
derway among trie allies ruling
Germany for a revision of the
Potsdam declaration on Ger
many in some respects. Chiefly,
the United States is seeding a
modification of the arrangement
which requires unanimous agree
ment among this government,
Russia, France and Britain be
fore any decisions can be made
by the allied control council in
Berlin. This effort at revision
grows out of Byron Price's re
port on the possible failure of
American aims and policies in
Uermany.
1 4. Gen. George C. Marshall
the president's special envoy to
China, probably will leave for
Chungking in three or four days
and the instructions which he is
finally given may be published.
They are yet to be worked out
although Mr. Truman said that
Marshall's basic job would be to
carry out the policies which
we've always had in China.
7 5. The resignation of Ambas
sador Patrick J. Hurley from
the China post reached his desk
formally only this morning, the
president said. Hurley an
nounced it two days ago with a
blast at American "career diplomats."-
Mr. Truman declined to
comment on the Hurley criti
cisms. . f
Col. Tudor To Retire
As District Engineer
' PORTLAND, Ore., Nov. 29
(JP) Col. Ralph A. Tudor, to re
tire as U. S. district engineer
here, said today he expects to
receive his army discharge Sat
urday at Fort Lewis, .Wash.
Starting about January 1, he
will assume charge of foreign
projects for Morrison-Knudsen
company, Boise, he reported. A
trip to see about construction
projects in India will be high on
his agenda.

this year, but early snows pre
vented cutting. The area will
be buried in snow now until
late spring.
Weyerhaeuser Timber com
pany, one of the largest shippers
of Christmas trees to caiuorma
until last year, has discontinued
cutting for out of state markets.
This is in keeping with the tree
farm policy of the company.
About 1000 white firs have been
cut already for local distribu
tion and about 2000 more will
be cut this season, Fred Goeller,
Weyerhaeuser trespass man stat
ed. Cut and Shipped
Only about 1000 lineal feet of
Shasta fir have been sold by the
Rogue River national forest this
year, and they were cut and
shipped to Sacramento and San
Francisco early in November.
A few sales were made a
month ago from O&C lands,
P. F. Jackman, assistant district
forester advised. There were
about 5000 trees cut and ship
ped to the San Francisco bay
area. No trees are being sold
now. however. Sales are natur
ally restricted to certain sub
marginal alpine areas, and where
trees need thinning, but snow
has come into these forests pre
venting further cutting this
year.
Few Trees Cut
Some trees are being cut from
other ownerships in the county
for local use and shipping, but
as a whole Klamath is keeping
its trees for home use this year.
Ernie Bridger has a crew of
four men cutting stumpage on
Weyerhaeuser land as weather
permits. The men have only
been able to cut 100 trees a day
this past week on account of
storms, and truck-loads of trees
are being held up on account of
the icy roads. It is expected
that some trees will be brought
down today, however, and dis
tributed locally to oil stations
and suburban grocery stores.
AFL Meeting
Called Here
A mass meeting of AFL mem
bers of this area has been called
for the Labor temple for Fri
day night, starting at 8 o'clock,
to hear J. T. Marr, executive
secretary of the Oregon Federa
tion of Labor.
Marr will be accompanied here
by John O'Neill, secretary of the
Oregon Building Trades council
ind a state executive board mem
ber, who will also , address the
meeting.
The affair has been arranged
by the Central Labor council.
Refreshments will follow the
meeting and all members of the
AFL are invited, the committee
announced. Committee mem
bers are C. D. Long, Ed Living
ston and Joe Willis.
Reds Threaten
Iran Movement
LONDON, Nov. 29 (P) An
Iranian embassy spokesman said
in a statement today the Soviet
government had threatened to
reinforce red army garrisons in
northern Iran if Iranian rein
forcements were moved into that
troubled region.
"The Soviet government, in
reply to five notes from the
Iranian government," the state
ment said "have rejected the
request of the Iranian govern
ment for the dispatch of rein
forcements to the disturbed areas
of northern Iran, with the threat
that if reinforcements proceed
to these districts the Soviet gov
ernment will have to reinforce
their own garrisons.
