The naval aerology station,
which ha been operating since
the naval air base was estab
lished here, ha supplied weath
er forecast, especially colling
and visibility report for prac
tice flight from tho station, a
well a weather for transient
military aircraft en route
through this area. In addition
to these duties the station has
supplied local weather for the
past 24 hour on the 10 cities
mentioned.
With the naval air station
placed on caretaker status
aerology department hns ceased
operations. Flight weather fore
cast were discontinued October
1, and since then weather obser
vations alone havo been com
piled by that department. It was
relieved of tills duty also when
the aerology station was offi
cially closed down Saturday,
October 20.
The station operated 24 hour
a day with a night watch of two
men and day watch of four men
under Lt, Leland Ellingworth,
serological officer in charge of
tho station.-

King supported a substitute
program for postwar national
defense advanced yesterday by
Secretary of the Navy Forreslal.
Admiral King summarized hi
postwar planning this way:
1. The navy should continue
as a separate service "unhamp
ered In function and operation"
by officer "unfamiliar with
nnval operations." ,
2. Tho separate war and navy
department should be retained,
each headed by a civilian cabi
net officer. ,
3. Overall military control
should bo through the Joint
chief of staff with subordinate
agencies "expanded and amend
ed." 4. Civilian wartime agencies

board and war manpower board
should be continued.

named as co-respondent Elmer
Guinea, 27, Los Angeles uphol

Mauldin, separated last October
1. They met while he was in an
army training cams near Abi

half the pedestrian fatalities in
Oregon occur on rural roads, the
committee urges person who

Camp Abbot near Bend, Ore.,

vember 5, the Portland army en

The camp was used eight
months to train engineers and
most of the buildings and equip
ment are in fine condition, sale
notices revealed. Buildings in
clude a theatre, a Chanel and an
ornate officers' club which, was
used one night for a dance, the
army reported. ;
