club here Saturday.' The game will be the featured event of a
Dads' weekend program on the Corvallis campus and will also
mark the renewal of civil war grid warfare between the two
state schools after a lapse of two seasons caused by the. war.

Where can you find the "goat"
of the 1945 world series?
There's been one almost every
year since the Inter-league cham
pionships became official back
in 1905, but with the deciding
game of the 1945 series coming
up at Wrigley Field today,
there's nobody you can hang the
goatee hirsute adornment on, de
spite the fact there has been
some "donnybrooks" in the first
six games.
There have been plenty of
goats in world series history,
which began unofficially back
in 1903.
But in this final wartime sea
son, with a 3-3 deadlock in
games won and lost to be decid
ed today, there still is no goat to
pin a win or loss upon, the rec
ords show. That may be deter
mined today. . '
There have been errors in this
series, six by the Cubs, four by
Detroit, There have been un
earned runs as the result of er
rors but none provided a win
ning tally.
Just one inconsequential error
may develop that can put one
player on the spot, and put a
pitcher back where he can't re

day the winner of the comedy of
errors that is the 1945 world
series, but baseball history
favors the Chicago Cubs.
In the 42-year history of the
classic, the decision went to the
National leaguers six times out
of the eight times the series
went seven games.

will rate as top-heavy favorites
to hand the Orange their second

However, the Orangemen are
determined to make a comeback
after their miserable showing at
Pullman. Neither Coach i-on
Stiner nor his players had any
alibis to offec for the trouncing
from the Cougars. The Beavers
were caught llat-footed by the
hard-charging Pullman club and
don't intend to have the same
thing happen again. Stiner or
dered his men at the first prac
tice this week to forget the
Pullman debacle and point for
Oregon.
Center Bob Krell and Left
Half Neil Richardson were the
only Oregon State players that
looked at all good against the
Cougars. Krell is fast becoming
acquainted with the pivot post
after being shifted from tackle
earlier in the season and was
the outstanding Orangeman on
the field last Saturday. Richard
son did a good job of filling in
for an injured Dick Gray.
Saturday's game will be the
48th meeting of the Wedfoots
and Beavers. Although Oregon
is well ahead in the series stand
ings with 25 wins to 15 for the,
Orange, Stiner's clubs have won
six of the last seven games
played between the state rivals.

Dick Scott, navy center, won
honors today as "the lineman of
the week" in the first Associated
Press lineman poll of the college
football season.
Commander Oscar Hagberg,

Hours After TKO
LOS ANGELES, Oct 10 (VP)
Alberto Silva, 22, Los Angeles
featherweight boxer, died in
General hospital last night less
than 24 hours after he was de
feated by a technical knockout
in the fourth round of a sched
uled four-round fight with Felix
Miramontes, also Los Angeles, at
Ocean Park arena.
Silva was still on his feet in
the bout Monday night when
Referee Jimmy Wallace stopped
the fight, holding that he had
taken too many blows to the
head.
The coroner's office said an
autopsy would be performed to

times in 1926, 1931 and 1934.
The Pittsburgh Pirates copped
two, in 1909 and 1925, and the
Cincinnati Reds in 1940.

coaches of Army's six remaining
opponents might do well to shop
around the war department for
some slightly used tanks or ba
zookas because it appears today
that something extra special is
to be needed to stop that West
Point juggernaut.

points in winning nine games
and the national championship
last season. This campaign ap
pears like it might turn out even
better for the future generals.
