be held September 3, by the

from various churches on the
west coast will be present.

Schedule Told
The schedule for the day is as
follows: Inspirational service at
10 a. m., business meeting and
reports from various Overcom
es groups at 2 p. m., singspira-
tion at 6:30 p. in., and evening
xfrvirp at 7:30 D. m.
There will be special musical
numbers presented at the servic
es and a song service will open
each meeting. Dinner and lunch
will be served. Everyone is in
vited to attend any or all the
services.

Lake o' the Woods this coming
weekend. The group will leave
Friday afternoon and return
Sunday. While they are at the

vice president; Frank Nott,
treasurer; Marian Maclntyre.

Four. The young people's society of
the Immanuel Baptist church
will meet at 6 p. m. Sunday to
outline the program for their
fall and winter -work. The presi
dent, Deloris Brown, will be in
charge.

Toastmasters enjoyed an ad
dress by Don Nelson, district
governor from Portland, at the
regular meeting Wednesday, Au
gust 29.
Preparations were completed
for the eight-week speechcraft
course which is available to the
public and will begin September
12.

W) The Ketchikan chamber of
commerce protested to the civil
aeronautics board to Alaska con
gressional delegate Bartlett yes
terday against a proposed grant
by the CAB of exclusive North
Pacific rights to northwest air
lines. The Seattle chamber of
commerce already had registered
protest.

The son of Mrs. Elizabeth Strege,

Betty Druliner and they have a
son, Michael Douglas.' He at
tended Lamp Douglas, Wis.,
high school and was employed
in a paper mill before entering
the navy in December, 1942.

Per capita income in the United
States practically doubled during
the war.
Tho commerce department
said so yesterday in a survey of
income payments to Individuals
during the years 1940 through
1944.
The survey showed per capita
income for individuals jumped
from S575 In 1940 to $1117 in
1944, or an increase of 94.3 per
cent. The figures were reached
by dividing total income by the
civilian population.
The trend was for income in
the southeast, southwest and
west to come closer to the in
come levels of the cast and mid
west. But the department added that
"over the period only two states,
Oregon and Indiana, shifted
from the lower to the higher
group, and none of the high
income states lost status."
One of the most spectacular
gains was registered by the state
of Washington. Its 1944 per
capita income was $1483 com
pared with $632 in 1940.
By regions the far west 1944
per capita income was $1459,
the middle east $1333. New Eng
land $1284, central $1192. north
west S996, southwest $867 and
southeast $722.

Home Extension Unit To Be
Started In Klamath Falls
In a move to improve restau
rant price compliance, W. H. Mc
Cargar, district OPA food price
specialist, announced that from
now on restaurant operators will
not be allowed to make any
changes in their April 4-10, 1043
base period prices filed with
local OPA boards.
However, restaurants must
file all "in-line" prices of new
items with their local boards
within three days after an item
is first offered for sale.
Attempts by some restaurant j
operators to charge more than
the legal ceiling prices for cof
fee will be checked by two ac
tions: one provides that charg
ing more than five cents for a
cup or pot of coffee will not be
allowed except for some new es
tablishments. The other sets the
ceiling price for coffee at the
lower of the maximum prices
charged by restaurants during
the two periods, October 4-10,
1942, or October 4-10, 1943.
Details of an OPA action to
assist new small businesses to
get underway during tnc recon-1
version period have been an
nounced by that uiirncy. The
action, eflective September 5,
pro vines two special pricing
methods for new small volume
manufacturers of most consumer
goods other than clothing. Since
this group will in general be
starting without sufficient capi
tal to absorb tho present abnor
mally high cost of setting up a
business, they will be permitted
the option of in-line prices or
temporary ceiling prices calcu
lated on the basis of current
costs plus a specified profit mar
gin. The in-line method of pricing
is to select a product comparable
to the one they expect to pro
duce and adopt the celling price
now in effect for the comparable
article.
