July Postal Receipts
Show Marked Increase
Postal receipts for July, 1943,
one of the slowest months of the
post office year, show increases
of $772.43 over July, 1944, Burt
C. Hawkins, Klamath postmast
er said.
Figures for the month this
year reached $18,130.10, and for
July last year were $17,357.67.
Postal recelnts have been In
creasing steadily since the war
began, Hawkins said, and tne ap
proaching last quarter ot 194S is
expected to show an all-time
high for this post office.

Attendance at Moore park has
been high this summer, accord
ing to figures brought out at the
Tuesday Park "board meeting.
On Sunday there were an esti
mated 3000 using the park and
there were about 1500 on the
preceding Saturday. ,
Coleman O'Loughlin was giv
en permission by the board to
burn grass from certain areas in
the park so that serious fires
may benrevepted lit the future.
City Engineer E, A. Thomas
was asked to confer with the
county engineer about the road
over the hill from the park to
Riverside school and to deter
mine whether Improvements
could be made.
Mra. Robert Mansfield was
given permission to operate the
concession stand on one day a
week. -
Due to the numerous accidents
at the park, it was voted to pro
vide a good first aid kit for the
use of the public.
The city engineer and caretak
er were also authorized to exper
iment with various substances to
try to settle the dust at the pic
nic grounds.

everyone but Ireland's Tinker
tribe. '
But Ward was nailed as king
elect as 8000 members of the
gypsy bands who roam the coun
try in caravans, mending pots
and pans and selling horses and
goats, collected at Connemara
for a coronation ceremony to
morrow night.
In secret preliminary contests
of drinking, fighting and boast
ing in which anyone who got
drunk or fell asleep was elimi
nated candidates' for the past
two weeks have vied for the
title of king. With it goes the
right to free meals and free
drinks anywhere in the "king
dom," a gift of four horses and
the best of the gypsy caravans,
and the choice of Tinker col
leens as a bride.
The contest finalists were
Ward and Dodd. Somehow
Ward managed to prove he
