Three days of canning claxses by
Mrs. Vivian Frocman will fol
low. Onsdorff. who has done re
search with home freezing, is
co-author of the OSC bulletin.
"Food Preservation." He will
discuss preparing fruits, vege
tables and meats for cola locker
storage, and answer questions
regarding drying and freezing
food at home.
Onsdorff will also cover eco
nomic phases of installing freez
ing lockers in the home in post
war planning, and advantages of
larger freezing units in electric
ice boxes supplemented by lock
ers in commercial freezing
plants.
Mrs. Freeman will answer
questions on problems of home
canning and will consider sug-
flcstionx on what food to can dur
ng classes. Anyone wishing to
see a particular type or lood
canned during the session should
send a postcard to the home
demonstration office, federal
building, Klamath Falls. Mrs.
Freeman will gladly demonstrate
cunning any food available in
the markets.
Classes are open to all inter
ested homcmakers at no admis

Brlggs and her daughter, Mrs.
E. C. Coleman, owners of Lil
lian's cafe, have announced sale
of their business to James Plass,
Bend. Plass will take posses
sion Thursday.
Mrs. Briggs has operated the
business, one of the first cafes
opened in Tulelake, for one and
one-half years. She plans to re
tire from the restaurant business
for the present and will make
her home with the Coleman fam
ily at their ranch on the state
line.

In a German prison camp, is
spending a few days furlough
hore and "enjoying every min
ute of It especially the food."
Sgt, Bechen spent two "hun
gry months" at the Markt-Pon-gua
prison camp In Austria at
the end of the European war.
The German situation was break
ing up, and even the prison
guards weren't too well fed.
Finally, the Germans aban
doned tho camp. The prisoners
started foraging and discovered
extensive food supplies In ware
houses. They were feasting on
this when American troops came
In to free the camp, where there
are about 13.000 Americans. Rus
sians and British.
Sgt, Bechen said he and others

Clarence W. Rogers, 18, en
tered a plea of guilty to a charge
of srana larceny In circuit court
Monday afternoon and was sen
tenced to a term not to exceed
two years in the Oregon state
penitentiary by Judge David R.
Vandenberg. Rogers was repre
sented by A. C. Yaden.
Rollers admitted stealing an
outboard motor valued at $400
belonging to Ed Isensee at Lake
o' the Woods on July 8. He
waived preliminary hearing,
grana jury indictment and statu
tory time.
Ho also admitted that he was
Involved in numerous octs of
stripping cars in Klamath Falls.

"We sat around and did noth
ing but eat for about two weeks,"
said the Klamath man, who has
gained more than 30 pounds
since his release.
Sgt. Bechen was captured In
eastern France when he and his
reconnalsance party were sent
ahead into a town that was be
lieved to be secured, but which
was partially in German hands.
They had Just set up an ad
vanced communications post in
a house and Bechen had Just
made the first telephone call
back to battalion headquarters
when the Germans surrounded
the house and came in. He told
the party on the other end of
the line what had happened and
jerked tho batteries out of the
telephone Just as a German
thrown grenade exploded . All
members of the party were
taken.
Release from the German
prison camp came two days
after V-Day.
Sgt. Bechen wears the Bronze
Star, Purple Heart, and four
campaign stars for the European
theater. He was wounded early
in the continental campaign, re
covered in England, end re
turned to the frtmt.
He plans to spend a few days
here, then will visit his sister
at Bend and his brother, John
Bechen, end family, at Stockton.
