hunt shells on the beach but re
fuses to surrender "as long as
there aro no orders from the

The truce negotiations with
the Japanese commander, who
shall be known In this account
as MhJ. Watanube, started June
13 when an LCI broadcast an
appeal to the island garrison to
surrender.
