President Truman ordered all
government official today to
make a "most exacting review"
of (pending in their depart
ments.
Ho demanded prompt Investi
gation of "every Instance where
thero is tha slightest ground to
suspect either misuse or careless
handling of government funds."
At the same time he noted
that there ha been practically
no evidence of financial abuse
and urged that "this good record
shall be preserved.
But he told his administra
tion head they must use "vig
orous disciplinary action" In
any Instances of mishandling of
government funds.
The White House gave no In
timation of -what prompted the
memorandum which was direct
ed to the heads of all depart
ment and agencies.

Collect ive Trial
LONDON, July 8 fP) Jus
tice Robort H. Jackson said to
day that the four major allied
powers had agreed In principle
on the American plan for the
collective trial of major war
criminals before an internation
al military tribunal.
As chief prosecutor for the
United States, Jackson told the
Association of American Cor
respondents In London that there
remained a number of questions
of procedure to be worked out
among the United States, Brit
ain, France and Russia, includ
ing that of reconciling the trial
method of the various coun
tries. Ho reiterated his hope
that the trial itself could get
underway by lato summer.
