GREWS IN AREA
Two fire fighting camps com
posed of boys of high school age
have been established this sum
mer by the Klamath Forest
Protective association under the
direction of H. H. Ogle, district
warden.
One of these camps is located
nt Pennv sDrines off the Ash
land-Klamath Falls highway
and is composed of nine boys
along with a foreman and a
cook. The other camp is sit
uated at King's cabin on the
Long-Bell tract in the northeast
corner of the Klamath Indian
reservation where 10 boys are
stationed along with two fore
men and a cook. Boys placed
there are responsible for fire
suppression as far east as Sum
mer lake rim which is 30 miles
east of the main camp.
The duties of the boys con
sist of telephone line repair,
clearing of roads, relief of for
est lookouts, and suppression of
any fires breaking out in their
two respective areas.
The boys seem to enjoy the
work, Ogle stated, and prefer
their own districts. Several boys
at both camps hold radio broad
cast licenses, he said.
The 10 boys stationed at
King's cabin are: Dave Williams,
Joe Williams, John Ogle, Rob
ert Mocabee, John Foster. Gay
lord Upington, Charles Black
stone, Dick Yates, Norman
Stratton, and Kenneth Ellis.

Carstensen, Jim Case, Gene Yar-
nell, Robert .Lee, Klcnara
Youne. Alvin Steele. Dick Cole,
and Harold Gillette.

OF BELL'S DEATH
. Mrs. L. G. Logan, 1323 Wordeh
and Mrs. Elizabeth Bell, Rt. 3,
have received letters from the
captain and chaplain of their
late brother and son, Hilliard
Bell.
Bell lost his lifo April 2, 1945.
His body is buried in a cemetery
located on the former school
grounds in the town of Zamami,
on the island of Zamami of the
Kerama Retto group near Oki
nawa, according to ' Chaplain
Luther M. Cole.
Cpt. John Doorlcy's letter was
received mrougn ine nea i;ross.
The captain wrote "Hilliard
was killed in action against the
enemy on board ship when a
Jap bomber crashed into the
bridge. He was given medical
attention immediately but died
almost instantlv."
Memorial services were held
aboard ship and again on land,
the captain said. Company C,
of which he was a member,
named its company street Bell's
Row in nis honor. He was liked
by everyone, and his loss will
be deeply felt, the captain
wrote.
