Billy Almeter
Undergoes Operation
Young Billy Almeter, 15-ycar-old
son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Almeter, 330 Delta, was taken
to Hillside hospital Thursday
morning to be operated on lor
appendicitis.
Billy suffered an attack Wed
nesday evening and was taken
to the hospital Thursday morn
ing. The youth went into the
surgery at 1 p. m.

lice began a drive today to break
up a gang of tough young girls
who, they said, had been terror
izing New York's upper west
side, attacking women, children
and even servicemen.
Three 17-year-old elrls. idea
tified as members of the Amazon
band were on parole for hearing
today after being arraigned on
burglary charges. The police
said they beat a younger girl and
attempted to break into her
home.
Neighbors told officers the girl
marauders were "worse than
any gang of boys," that their
language would "put a veteran
sailor to shame," and declared it
was unsafe to be on the streets
after dark.

merce, said that local people
are naturally disappointed, but
that the decision will not damp
en Klamath s efforts for con
tinuing highway development,

velopment of both the Klamath

Death, Damage On
Zellars Disclosed

aboard the TSS Zellars was
disclosed by the navy today as
the destroyer docked at Roose
velt naval operating base, a gap
ing hole in her superstructure
inflicted by a three-man Jap
anese suicide bomber attack off
Okinawa April 12.

er, related that 34 were killed,
36 wounded and two reported
missing when the Jap bomber
skipped a bomb of about 1000
pounds into the Zellars. then
crashed on deck, killing the
three Japanese.
