Portland Dogs To
Retain Liberty
PORTLAND, May 18 (IP)
This city's dogs will enjoy
liberty this summer, the city
council . voted despite pleas of
alarmed victory gardeners.
Nearly 100 gardeners urged
councilman to require owners to
leash their pups and keep them
in home yards, so flower plots
and vegetables would not be dug
up. Mayor Riley and the coun
cil, however, decided an ordi
nance to deport offending
pooches was sufficient.
