At Baptist Church
In lovely candlelight ceremony which took place it the
Immanuel Baptist church on Friday evening . April 20 at eight
o'clock, Miss Betty Mae Rugg, daughter of Mr. and MrsPeter

ditional wedding marches were
played by Marie Wright. ,
. Following the wedding, a re
ception was held in the parlors
of the church, at which time 75
guests were invited to honor the
newlyweds. Pouring at the re
ception was Mrs. Charles Sund
atrom, who was assisted by Mrs.
Lucille Blms, Mrs. Juanlta
Trippett, Miss Lois Bims and
Miss Dorothy Brown.

The Townserid club auxiliary
met on Wednesday, April 25, at
the home of Mary Martin for a
potluck . dinner at 12:30, and
Alice Gray was honored on her

A new Girl Scout troop has
been organized at Riverside
school with ten registered
Scouts in the troop. Mrs. Fran
cis Slowey is a member of the
troop committee, and officers
of the troop include Lola Mur
phy, president; Vina Murphy,
treasurer; Shirley Slowey,
scribe; Genevieve Morgan, song
leader; Virginia Rumelhart,
game leader.
An original troop song was
composed by the 1 members of
troop 19. which is called "Girl
Scouts of America," and is sung
to the tune of the "Starlight
Waltz." These Girl Scouts have
completed their work for the
rank of tenderfoot, and are
now busy on second class.
A combined committee repre
senting the Girl Scouts and
Camp Fire Girls held a meet
ing at the chamber of com
merce on Friday, April 27, at
7:30, at which time plans were
made for the five weeks of
camping to be enjoyed by Girl
Scouts and Camp Fire Girls at
Camp Esther Applegate at Lake
o' the Woods. The Scouts will
have the use of the camp for
the first three weeks from July
8 to August 12, and the Camp
Fire Girls during the following
two weeks. .

On Friday evening, April 20,
members of Girl Scout troop 5
enjoyed a slumber party at the
Scout House - on Leroy street.
The girls brought their sleeping
bags, and a midnight feed was
enjoyed by the 15 present. On
the following morning, break
fast was cooked, over the fire
place in the house. Many such
activities are being planned by
various scout troops for the
spring and summer months, and
hikes and camping trips are be
ing arranged by the leaders. .

Housewarming
On Saturday evening of last
week, a group of friends ar
ranged a housewarming party
for Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Ely,
who have recently purchased a
home on Summers lane. Acting
as co-hostesses for the affair
were Mrs. H. G. Largent and
Mrs. Ernest McGoran, Follow
ing the dinner, pinochle was
played by the guests with Mrs.
W. G. Ely winning high score
and Miss Betty Largent, low
for the women. For the men,
Mr. Oral Heavilin held high
score and Mr. Gomer Caseman,
low. The snecial award of the
evening was presented to Mrs.
Vincent Herlihy, and a beauti
ful blanket was presented to the
guests of honor.

Concerts Slated
For Coming Season
The membership of the Klamath Community Concert associa
tion was thrilled this week to learn the 1945-48 concert series
would include outstanding artists of the Metropolitan Opera com
pany. First scheduled is Jan Peerce, internationally known tenor and
recognized as one of the finest artists in this field. He is affili
ated with the Metropolitan Opera company and is a star of con
cert, opera and radio. Jan Peerce will be here sometime in
early fall.
An outstanding performance
is that offered as the second at
traction by the Columbia Opera
company which will be seen
here in "Barber of Seville."
This company comprises a gal
axy of young stars, many of
whom have been sought here
for individual performances in
past, concerts. Some of them are,
Anna Kaskas, leading contralto
of the Metropolitan, Enya Gon
zalez, lovely Philippine songbird
and protege of the late Presi
dent Manuel Quezon; Frances
Yeend, a native of Oregon and
one of the newest of the lyric
sopranos; Mona Paulee, mezzo
soprano and member of the
Metropolitan since winning the
1940 "Auditions of the Air,"
and others.
Along with the Columbia Op
era company singers will be a
32-plece orchestra and full
chorus and ballet.
- Last of the three concerts
will be given by a duo-piano
team, Bartlett and Robertson,
who have won the title of "the
best beloved piano duetists in
the world." The New York
World-Telegram had this to say
about the team: "Certain con
cert artists become axiomatic in
the field. You often hear re
marks like "he's no Kreisler,"
""he sounds like Caruso," or
"he's a second Paderewskl." I
imagine the proudest moment in
any piano team's life is when
someone calls it "a second Bart
lett and Robertson."
President George Mclntyre
announced that because so many
renewals from old members
came to the association for the
coming year, it has not been
necessary to sponsor a spring
campaign. But this weekend
there are a few limited adult
memberships. The association
will accept this limited number,

Church Auxiliary
The Women's auxiliary of St.
Paul's Episcopal church met on
Thursday, April 19, with Mrs.
R. H. Reeves as hostess for the
day. Reports on the regional
convocation at Bend were made
by Mrs. A. B. Hood. Mrs. A. J.
Lambert and Mrs. Fay T. Cat
lin. These reports stressed, the
trend toward unity In the
churches, as was indicated by
the presence of clergy of every
denomination at tne meeting.
Principal speakers included
the Reverend Kenneth E. To
bias, minister of the First Bap
tist churcn at Bend, Mrs. c. v.
Bowman, president of the Wo-

The theme of the convocation
was the challenge of the church

ceed Mrs. Charles Scharfen-
stein as custodian of the fund
for St. Margaret's house,, on
which a report was made by
Hazel Morrison.
