KUHS Track Team Does Well In Relays
We were the recipients of a letter yesterday from Paul Dellcr,
KUHS track coach, in which Paul complained that the KUHS
track team had not received a fair amount of space.
Paul apparently feels that we have some sort of grudge
against track as a major sport. This is not true
and if we nave played xracK down, h was aone
inadvertently and is entirely our fault.
We feel that the high school athletics merit
more space than any other sports in Klamath
Falls. Perhaps the Klamath cindermen did de
serve more of a build-up than they received
and the only excuse we have to offer is that
track results come in late after the page is al
most entirely made up and we are limited as
to news space.
The Pelican cindermen very definitely de
serve an accolade for their fine showing in the
Hayward relays at Eugene Saturday. It was one
of the toughest meets of the year and KUHS
ninxori ihirH in a tip with Salem. The Klamath
squad this year is a green outfit and by that token, it merits all
the more credit for crashing through to a high place in the stand-

Henley high school also did exceptionally well by placing
third in class "C" and lacked only two points from annexing the
class championship. ....
- The Klamath Union high school squad gathered a total of 9 hi
points in the meet. The third place tie would have been equiva
lent to a first place deadlock three years ago, as Portland schools
did not compete in the meet then.
Paul has done a great job this year in building the Pelican
track team into a contender for state honors. His criticism is
weil taken and we are thankful- to him for letting us know about
it. ...... r. ....
It has been our honest intention to be fair if nothing else, and
if the Klamath boys have felt slighted, we are sorry abou that,
too.
We have taken this means to rectify the unintended slight
and we feel that is the best that anyone can do.
Junior Golf Tourney Scheduled
Nine Klamath Falls bovs will compete in a city junior golf
tournament Saturday, April 29, at Realties Golf and Country
club. The tourney will consist of 18 holes of medal play with no
handicap.
John West, tournament chairman, has donated a cup and the
winner to assume permanent possession of the trophy with a new
one being donated each year.
Each boy is sponsored by an organization and the participants
and sponsoring groups are as follows: Jack Anker, Eagles; Bill
Barnett, Lions; George Bell, chamber of commerce; Jim Noreen,
Moosej Don Rumelhart, Reames; Fred Reeves, Elks; Joe Sellars,
Kiwanis; Bill Ferrin, Rotary, and Johnny West, Shrine.
Starting time has been set for 9 a. m. and the boys will be in
there trying to make each shot count when they tee off for the
junior championship.
All the boys entered have been getting in a fair amount ot
practice on the tricky Reames layout and Klamath golf bugs may
see an amazing display of golf Saturday morning.
John West, along with "Moon" Mullis and other club officials,
are directly responsible for instigating and carrying out the tour
nament. -
