rent activities, operational con
trol of the U, S. ninth army and
the 2 !Hh tactical air command
have been returned respectively
to the U. 8. 12th army group
and the U. S. ninth air force,
supreme headquarters announc
ed today.
In addition to the ninth, Gen.
Omar N. Bradley' 12th army
group Includes the U. S. first,
third and ISth armies, making
Hradley the first general in
American history to command
four field armies In one group.
- His command consists of con
siderably moro than 1,000,000
men.
Control of the 12th-army
group was aplit at the time of
the Germans' Ardennes offen
sive last December, when the
ninth and part of the first were
switched to Field Marshal Mont
gomery's 21st army group.
When the Ardennes bulge was
flattened Bradley got back the
first army dementi, but the
ninth was kept under Montgom
ery becuuso lt was to be used
with his troops In tho plnccr
cleanup west of the Rhine, and
the Initial thrust across the
river.
