Portland Mayor Has Praise
For Klamath Shrine Effort

children, continued today to re
ceive warm commendation from
state leaders In this work.
Mayor R. E. Riley of Port'
land, who is chairman of the
hoard of the hosnital. said:
"I want to express to you and
the other splendid citizens of
Klamath Falls area the deep and
sincere appreciation of the en
tire board, the medical nursing
staff, and particularly, the chil
dren at the hospital for the very
fine contributions Klamath coun
ty has made to the hospital."
He pointed out:
"This fifty-bed hospital ad
ministers to children only with
out concern for race, creed, or
color, the principal prerequisite
for admittance being that the
parents of the children are un
able to pay for treatment Dur
ing the past 20 years of its ex
istence it has received approxi
mately five thousand little tots
whore outlook upon life was
hopeless and forlorn. These
twisted little bodies have been
corrected or cured of their de
formities, and the children have
taken their rightful place in
society and become useful cit
izens in the various communities
to which they returned. We
have had many from the Klam
ath Falls area, several of whom
now are serving in the armed
forces of the United States. v

Alva C. Mursters, retired Rose
burg bunker and chairman of
the state fair board for 13 years,
died at his home here last nlclit
after a long illness.
Mursters, 85, whs the first
mayor of Incorporated Ro.seburg,
and represented Douglas county
in the state sendto from 1900 to
1904. He founded the Roscburg
National bank in 1907, -continuing
ns Its president until the
bank's sale in 1937.
